somehow I haven't seen this series of yours. I can't remember where but there was actually a similar stream of events where the rescuers were basically just thought to be smart mice but 'saved the day' by building a plane and distracting someone with it before flying off. Might not have been the rescuers as there are several mouse-themed characters that are similar.
