For this week's
Thursday_Prompt. Another tale involving Beor and Viola. I was hoping to have a few more stories in this world before revealing some of the stuff in this story, but this tale just popped in my head upon seeing the prompt. The idea of people who still believe in the old Pegan gods and preach their existence like this came from a plot thread I created for my players that they never followed up on (they ended up gaining the knowledge they needed a different way). The idea of a yatai selling ramen out beyond the normal realms was borrowed shamelessly stolen from the second episode of Space Dandy. I ended up created a new name for the cart vender since I don't have access to my notes and don't remember his original one, but he has a rather interesting backstory and ended up helping one of my players through a bind involving a male kitsune turned into a vixen and magically induced pregnancy... but that's a story for a different time.
Also, to anyone wondering who the squirrel I've been referencing whenever these two pop up, here he is. ;)
Prompt: Belief
Length: 3171 words
This universe and another story involving Beor and Viola came be found here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/54484822/
Reading that story should not necessary to understand this one as they are disconnected despite taking place in the same universe.
If you enjoy my writing, please leave a comment. I'd love to hear what you think.

Friends, ramen, and a brief, educational and philosophical discussion on the inner workings of the universe and how one might impose their will to manipulate it for their own gain at the top of the world tree itself. Fine dining, indeed.
Also... Beor's choice in literature is... tasteful? (I thought it was funny, well played.)

Transformations, elements of Norse mythology, Japanese food stands, mead, a familiar, and a discussion on the nature of arcane power. I don't have much to say other than that the story was filled with an assortment of things I like. Great work!
Oh and editing note;, you've got a homophone issue in the opening sentence.

Bleh. I feel like an idiot for that. Thanks for pointing it out.
Also, yes. I love this setting and so much in it. It really is a huge mythological hodgepodge I've been working on since late 2014 full of a ton of my favorite elements. It's also super easy for me to write stuff in because I used to to run TRPGs and so it is super easy for me to create new content for on the fly (and I also have 9 years of game content to pull stuff from).

What everyone said, an interesting look into your story universe and characters, so if I understand correctly Viola was an ordinary bear and Beor entirely human?
"Fifty Shades of Grey" - she's in for a surprise, nice choice ;)
"You give them too many opportunities to reach for power behind their capabilities. " - I assume this was beyond?
"a male kitsune turned into a vixen and magically induced pregnancy" - oh now you can't just leave us with that one, though I always feel sorry for characters who find themselves pregnant without the fun part in getting there, not that being pregnant can't itself be fun in an odd way, or at least interesting.

Basically, yes. Technically being a wizard means you aren't really a normal human (there's a lot of benefits beyond just being able to cast magic), but appearance wise, yes.
She's definitely in for a surprise there.
Bleh, another error. Just fixed it. Thanks for pointing it out. Was very distracted while writing and editing this with all of the holiday and family goings on so I didn't have enough time to comb over this one.
So I can probably give the short version (how he ended up at the Ramen shop is the long part). Essentially Sam, former human turned feral kitsune, just has a trait where weird stuff always seems to happen to him (the player playing the character chose this) which essentially gave me carte blanche to come up with any sort of strange and inconvenient thing to mess with him. So the outcome of one of my amusing ideas ended up making him female with the spell set to end in three days. A day later and the mage in our group is working on some sort of spell that is going to be temporarily creating life (I forget why). After building up a huge amount of magical energy he critically fails which is another moment where I am just allowed to make stuff up. Well Sam just happened to be in the room (no one else was) so I had the spell's failure cause him to become pregnant with a strange rock elemental. He wouldn't change back after the three days because of the pregnancy, but it would be rapid development and probably only last a month. Another day later, he ends up inadvertently teleporting himself to another world entirely and ends up running into Damel here to help him get back. Damel actually recognizes what's happening to him, explains it all, and gives him a choice where he can give birth to the strange rock elemental in about a month or alter it so he'd give birth to another kitsune instead. In this universe kitsune, despite being feral, still have a more human length pregnancy (they only give birth to or two kits and they also come out far more developed), so if he went that path he'd be stuck as a vixen for months. He ended up deciding that having a kitsune child was safer than whatever the weird magical rock elemental would be. Sadly the campaign kind of died before I could really explore how it was going to go. Especially when he eventually got back to his wife (who was pregnant herself) who was going to absolutely freak about about the whole situation.
And that was the short version...

Ah interesting, I see!
And you aren't kidding, though I've never actually read those books, not really my thing.
n/p I know that feeling.
You guys really have the best time with these games, that sounds super-fun and I'd probably give you carte-blanche to mess with also ;) And he definitely made the right decision on that one, it's a pity it didn't all play out to a conclusion though. How did your friend feel about the whole situation? And I recognise the character from your October pic! What species was his wife btw, that's not a straightforward question in your story-universes I know ;)

Oh, she was another kitsune. As far as they knew they were the last of their kind so I don't think she would end up being too mad overall. Especially when the other players vouch for what happened.
As for the player, he took it all in good fun. I mean he did ask for maximum, please mess with my character at the beginning of the campaign.

Well pretty much every player ended up species swapped. I warned them that their characters might not remain human at the start of the campaign so it was expected. I'll be honest, I'm not sure how weird they took it. I know some of them were kind of mad about losing their character's humanity at the start, but they got into it once they started seeing what cool abilities they would have. Like one character ended up being a gryphon with a rifle who used her natural super powered eyes as a scope.
The gender swapping stuff kind of just turned into a joke. The kitsune player in question had so much stuff go wrong to him that whenever anything new happened they all just laughed and told him to suck it up. It was funny how I made it happen though. Essentially I had this small flower that was just popping up next to him and wherever he turned the flower would reappear. They other players told him to ignore it, but he just couldn't leave it alone. So he decided to attack the thing and destroy it which is what ended up triggering the gender swapping curse. It was actually rather unplanned because I needed to think of a consequence of him destroying the flower right then since I hadn't actually planned anything and just was trying to come up with a little oddness to weird him out and see how he'd react.

heh that all sounds rather awesome but then you know I'd approve ;)
I figured you were going to say he ate the flower and that caused the change, but that'll teach him to leave flowers alone, or not as the case may be ;) How did he react to that particular change? Some people can get a bit put out by that aspect when other transformations don't bother them.

He didn’t really mind it too much. At first he acted annoyed, but I wasn’t sure if that was just him in character or he was actually annoyed. Then he kind of got into it and it all became a good laugh. Very much a “I might have the body of a vixen, but I’m a man.”
I think he was more off put by the whole pregnancy thing because he couldn’t believe I would actually do that. But when he met back up with the group and looked the mage player straight in the eyes and told him, “I’m pregnant and you’re the father.” It all ended paying off because of the humor of the moment.
