Yes, I have very much heard the argument that this is garbage because “You will be ostracized for your differences until society finds you useful.” But I always felt like it was a story about how even if you feel like you will never belong, there will be light at the end of the tunnel. I am very much neurodivergent (Autism, ADD, etc.) so I can very much be considered disabled, but I only speak for myself as an individual. Also when I first heard the song as a kid, it genuinely felt like my first “He’s just like me for real!” Moment if that makes any sense.
