This concept comes from a spontaneous question : Does modern sailboats have hollow masts, to save weight and lower the center of gravity ? It was quickly followed by another : If the mast is hollow, could it be used as a snorkel ?
I ended up drawing a submersible sailboat which takes some elements from drug-smuggling 'snorkel subs' and ressembles Robert Fulton's 1806 submarine project.
