Just something I manage to get out before Christmas was over. Kind of something to do with the festive season but warcraft. I do apologize for the lack of content and the fact this one is quite short. I'll explain later.
Until then, hopefully people enjoy this little short. And to anyone wondering what Talzith looks like, This is her.
Ignoring the angry shouts of a Dwarven guard, Talzith folded her wings up as she stared up at the imposing gates of Ironforge. She had been to the dwarven capital many times since her awakening, never ceased to amuse her just how well these dwarves were at defending their home. Made her wonder if her father took the idea for the creches from them, or was it only the Earthen at the time? She wasn’t too sure.
But this visit was different. Her allies had finally convinced her to check out one holiday, the main one that was celebrated in this city. Though she’d seen decorations all over the place. It confused the Dracthyr why they’d put trees in pots, coloured lights, and brightly coloured boxes all over the place. She was told that Ironforge and Orgrimmar really went all out. While she couldn’t go to the Orc capital, though her friend Qelila would be there, this would do.
Walking towards the Commons from the gate, Talzith gave the giant statue at the front of the city very little attention. Already she could hear the distant sounds of the work in the Great Forge. It seems the dwarves never stopped working. But there was something else. Music, the sound of a crowd talking lively among each other. Even other sounds she wasn’t sure of just yet.
As she walked through the cavernous entrance and round the corner, she once again had to remind herself to ask just why it was so large if the second gates were a lot smaller. ‘Another time,’ she thought as she walked through one of the two archways that led into the Commons proper. What she saw was not what she was expecting.
There was a tree like she saw all over the place in Valdrakken, sure, but this one was much larger, set up near the bank entrance. A cart set off to the side, with a chair right near the tree with a dwarf sitting in it. Lots of kids seemed to be near him as well as adults. She gave a shrug and strode her way closer.
It was still bizarre to see. The magical sleigh being pulled by flying reindeer?
‘The mages must've gotten bored, she thought. A thought enforced more by the giant magical dome filled with snow. Wait… did a Worgen Death Knight just gleefully jump in and become a gnome? Talzith just blinked in surprise before shaking her head. ‘This is just too strange.’
As she was about to walk away, she looked at the cart again to see a bunch of adventurers around it. ‘Ok, this might be more interesting.’
As she made her way through, she saw two goblins. One looked up at her with a sharp tooth grin. “Ah, Dracthyr. I’m in need of someone of your service! If you have a moment to hear my plight,” he said.
She crossed her arms as she looked down at the little green creature. “I’m listening.”
“A creature called "The Abominable Greench" stole our shipment of treats. Be careful though! He's vicious and a bunch of those little green gnomes do his bidding! You're gonna need some help in facing him. Rumour has it he's holding our treats and our beloved Metzen the Reindeer at Growless Cave in the Hillsbrad Foothills! Find the treats and bring them back before the celebration is ruined and all the children of Stormwind are disappointed!” the goblin stated in a way that suggested he’s said this many times before.
“There are rewards I take?” Talzith asked.
“Oh yes! Great rewards!”
“Mmmm…. Consider it done,” she replied before making her way to the flightmaster.
Later that day, she was glad to feel the snow melt off her scales as she made her way back to Ironforge. The Commons was still busy, but she didn’t care as she made her way towards the cart again.
“I’ve killed the Greench,” she announced to the goblin, handing over the stolen present she had snagged after the battle.
“Oh, thank the Light. You're a true hero to everyone here at Smokywood Pastures and to all the children, of course! Here is your reward,” the goblin stated as he handed over another brightly covered box.
With a quizzical look, Talzith opened it. Only for her wings to drop and her tail to lash out angrily, hitting a gnome in the face. “This is it?!” she shouted as she pulled out a small toy racing car and what looked like a cake with fruit and possibly mince meat. “I risked my life just for this?!”
“I know it’s kinda random,” a Pandaren next to her said, appearing to get the same thing she got. “But you could always come back tomorrow and try again. There are good things in these if you are a collector.”
Letting out a groan of annoyance, she figured out this Greench was one of those creatures that seemed to come back all the time. But only appeared at a certain time of year, like the Headless Horseman. ‘Seriously, what the fuck has happened to Azeroth?!’
With a grimace, she stomped away towards the nearest vendor. At most, she could sell all this crap for some money. But as she left, she heard the goblin say one final thing.
“Hehe, glad I could help!” the goblin called out.
‘I’m going to bloody kill something!’
