Oh that does look like fun indeed.
You could maybe start a bit bigger, then put it on inside out and use safety pins or strong grippy clips to mark and pin areas you need to reduce later.
Also MJTrends fleece backed PVC is quite nice, as it is not too bulky but just thick enough to feel nice.
