It's true that everything is basically inspired by something else, you just might be completely unaware you were inspired until somebody points it out (Fritz was an example of this, his 2-D energy was unintentional, lmao)

When people say "originality is dead" they're not realizing it was never alive. Originality is a myth, always has been. In an infinite multiverse with finite possibilities, everything conceivable has always already been conceived. Any attempt to be truly "original" is an attempt to break the very laws of existence itself, for nothing and no one is more unique or special than anything or anyone else. We are all grains of sand in an endless dessert.

...Dunno why I suddenly got so philosophical but my brain just does that sometimes.

It's okay, I get randomly philosophical too sometimes, it comes with being lowkey stoned all the time for pain management, pff.
I get what you mean though, the same idea as asking somebody to imagine a colour they've never seen.

I feel that, sometimes it's hard to feel like you're doing something new when you see it compared to other stuff or you encounter somethin. Still though, like the other person above me said, every artist bring a unique perspective to their own work that other people definitely cannot replicate.

This is why I just try and do my own spin on things; Sure the idea has been done before but I can sure as heck do it my way too!

The amount of times my bf and I have discussed my webcomic, only for various plot points to make him go "This reminds me of Runescape/FFXIV/Whatever" is silly :P

If I knew my comment would have made such an impression like this I never would have said it and I apologize.

I was just excited to meet someone else that had a character with those specific traits because I never saw another besides my own.

It's alright, I'm not upset with you and I got over the discouraged feeling. I didn't draw this to make you feel guilty for your comment, and it's not even exclusively about that (I've had a problem with reacting badly to similar comments for a long time, and I don't like that I do, and the first step to fixing anything is admitting you have a problem and all that, thus this comic). Please don't feel bad.

God, that’s my biggest roadblock to creating stories and OCs. It’s really hard to just take a step back and remember that it doesn’t make what I’ve made any less good or worth continuing.

Sorry for the ramble but this was really relatable, I hope you’re able to get over that hurdle even if it isn’t the easiest thing <3
