The subject for this art piece is position around a palette of colors in such a way as to add natural cheer to the character.

Note the smoothed out transitions of orange on blue and white. These color schemes are used in such a way as to be soothing not only to the eyes but to the perceived character.

When examining the character of the bird, the cheerful smile as well as the well developed plumage are all well rendered to maximum effect. The sharp texture of the claws are well exhibited in such a way as to offset the smoothness of the background. At the same time the contrast in color between the deeper blacks and the softer whites and blues can be seen as a transitioning between styles that the artist masterfully uses to complete the piece.

Very very cute cardinal. Very apropo, too, considering Rio has a Red-Crested Cardinal in it as well. (Who ever would have thought of will.i.am as a friggin' Cardinal?)
