Original description: Yo yo yo it's almost the end of 2021, 2022's about to dawn! And how shall we celebrate? By having a quick recap of the gallery of yours truly, Joshua "Ziyo" Bakshi! You may have seen others do this before, but basically you pick your favourite bit of art you did for each month. It's simple, and kinda similar to what White Dwarf used to do before Games Workshop's quality decline, of course!
December 2020: Ziyo Presents... Street Soul! It's a parody of the album cover for Renard's Plastic With Audio and I made it that way to show that this is my earliest piece of work much like how PWA was Renard's first album. I almost get emotional over this little image.
January 2021: Kitsune2 plays Forsaken. So while I play Forsaken 64, I take screenshots of the characters for reference and stuff. Seeing how Kitsune2 is such a massive fan of video games good and bad (minus Touhou because no one wants to play a woke game like that) and the fact that I LOVE FORSAKEN TO BITS, I decided to go make this pic. It's a pretty sweet image overall, though it barely beat my drawing of Nota or one of my older OCs Necrobutcher. Also January is where I started to slowly phase out PaintShop Pro in favour of Paint.net.
February 2021: I really wasn't as active as I was in January, though I still had a hard choice on which picture to choose. Ultimately I went with Thaaaank You, mostly due to it being my first attempt at graphic design for an album art. It was inspired by the art pieces for Mungyodance (I really am obsessed with LapFox Trax) where each song had its own art to accompany it. The runner up was an image of me and my friends in Rotteen's big bowl of sweets.
March 2021: Big Bubbly Darius. This image was pretty fun to make and came with a fun little story detailing how Darius Halley turned into a balloon. (TQ doesn't stand for Tarma Queenston if you're wondering). Poor Darius, first he got his hand sliced off by Judge during On Trax Volume 5 and had to get it healed, then he got melted alongside Rotteen and now he's a big balloon! The runner up image was a comic I did for Easter in 2021. It's actually the very first comic I've ever uploaded too! The heavy use of gradients and the colour palette almost gives the image a Star Wars vibe. Maybe I should go back to using gradients instead of flat colours, but that isn't my artstyle. Though maybe there's a good portion of you out there who miss the gradients...
April 2021: Pinata Peex! As the younger of my two sisters shakes her way through the Gotham-like streets of Nizumi district (Street Soul's equivalent of Jet Set Radio's Benten district), I get the excellent opportunity to brush up on my background making skills! Not only does this image show my dedication to Jet Set Radio Future, but it also gives us a look into the crazy personality of Peex. She's clearly having too much fun!
May 2021: My choice here was pretty easy. This quirky image of a fellow DeviantArt user and favourite of mine ZackWhiteFang meeting Syras (who will appear in Ordna Awakens) gave me a good insight into
what forests may look like in my style, with spot colours and chaotic bits of greenery here and there. Everything was done in Paint.net minus the text, which was brushed down in Krita. May was also
around the time I had rediscovered Megaman and my love for the series, not that anyone's pointed out Syras' similarities to anyone from Megaman yet...
June 2021: Oh boy... So basically I had this idea of making ugly 3d animations in the style of AndyWilson92 and putting them on Odyssey, so I came up with a parody of The Dr Wily Show by Andrew Dickman. My take on the cartoon turns it into a deranged kids' show in a world where the Megaman characters like playing with their 'tennis rackets' and has a whole other bunch of offensive nonsense. Enter THE DR WILLY SHOW! This picture is basically a fake advert for the show, made to look as badly drawn and stupid as possible. My parents hate this image, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud of it.
July 2021: Now we're heading into the part of my gallery where I got thrown into doing requests. Most of these requests are pretty low in quality in my opinion, but my favourite image I did this month goes to Happy 29th B-day Drew! I went out of my way to draw this for Dragovian15's birthday, and he was pretty impressed. My favourite bit of this image is the background, as well as the fact I get to draw me and my sisters meeting Drew the dragon himself.
August 2021: Mabs. This is a general reference sheet for my open species, known as Mabanoxes. I'm hoping to make a better image someday, but I'm getting ahead of myself. If I had done this in, say,
July instead, then I would have put The bubble gun Part 1 here as my favourite. After all, who doesn't like to see Kitsune2 become a balloon, as well as see other cartoon rodents fall head over heels
for him?
September 2021: Probably one of the first images with some real action, Rotteen Vs Natia is inspired by the Rockman Rumble animations found on YouTube. The arena of course has a Forsaken twist to it and the picture is basically about two famous catgirls fighting to see who's the best. This picture also came as a neat surprise since I was able to get in depictions of blood or injury without some overly sensitive idiot forcing me to mark the image as mature. Mostly because it's just cartoon blood and not anything too detailed. Also try looking through one of those oval shaped windows.
October 2021: After seeing a particularly scarring Friday Night Funkin' mod where Kitsune2 turns to Chaos and tries to kill the hero of that game (yes, that FNF mod WAS REAL it was NOT an acid trip, though you could easily pass it off as one), I decided to continue that mod's story where Kitsune2 is repaired and rebuilt as a part machine hero called Ordna. Ordna represents a turning point in my art and content in general, up until now, I really didn't have any reason to make anything involving action and drama. But with Ordna and his accompanying comic, Ordna Awakens, I get to explore more violent themes, including some moments of tragedy though I'll still make an effort to avoid going mature. Think of Ordna as Doomguy, but he's fighting the Chaos Gods instead of regular demonic creatures.
November 2021: Anyone who's been really tuning into my non-stop dance party of a gallery would most likely have seen my sketches of the characters from the N64 gem known as Forsaken. Though I am pretty proud of Clark Culver and how I rendered his jetbike's metallic parts, I have to put L.A. Jay as my favourite for November because... Well... Just look at that Mega Buster he's got! Yeah, November was a pretty bad month for me emotionally, but Jazz dam did I do some awesome stuff back then.
December 2021: Shhhh... This one's coming very soon. Make sure to stick around cuz this image is reserved specifically as the last thing I upload for 2021.
I saw a whole bunch of other cats out on DeviantArt doing art summary pics of their favourite bits of art for each month at the end of a given year and I thought that would be a brilliant idea for me to try as well! Though I did technically count December 2020 in that list since that was my first month active back on DeviantArt and of course put the very first thing I uploaded there as my fave for that month.
Also, just a quick note, but since I never really got to add the surprise for December 2021, that being the end of 2021 celebration pic that only very recently I've just finished, I might change this pic to have the December 2021 pic revealed since I've finished it as well as talk a little about it on top of that.
