"The Nuckelavee is a foul demon of the Orkneys (Scotland). It's held captive in the ocean during the summer months, but when winter comes, it emerges from the waves. The nuckelavee's breath was thought to wilt crops and sicken livestock, and the creature was held responsible for droughts and epidemics on land despite being predominantly a sea-dweller."
For this year's Darklings holiday pic, I wanted something different. You see tons of Krampus, and evil Santas, and even Yule Cat has grown in awareness. So I focused on season-specific mythical monsters and searched for nothing lesser known, but not too obscure. Enter the nuckelavee.
Had fun drawing this. Coloring is...okay. Digital color isn't my strongest skill. I'll always be a traditional media artist at heart. Pleased with how it turned out, despite the weak coloring. Think I might do a full fine-art ink drawing in the future.
