Most units during the WotR had to make due with what they could for winter camp. Unfortunately, I snore, so the little lean-to with the firewood was also my little sleeping nook.

War of the Rebellion, what the the US Civil War was called at the time, at least in the North.

In the south it was referred to as the war against northern oppression.

It was done from a re-enactment Winter Quarters and our improvised structures, as well as my old garden shed and temporary lumber lean-to. After a while, living in period, the ways and looks of the period become the norm and we really look the part without self-consciously trying.

Certainly through the end of the century, many publications, including all official government references, called it the WotR.

I assume you mean the 19th Century...
Addendum: I *am* Texan. The historic interpretations and nomenclatures of this protracted event are indeed different here than they might be elsewhere.
