#25 in my ArtRage portrait challenge, for
argyron the black leopard! He wanted something "sensual," and I thought his character kinda resembles lava rocks like those at the beach... so here he is cooling off in the salty spray of breaking waves.

Wow...
This particular feeling is something I have experienced, and I think the word "sensual" describes it perfectly. It's also a very intense feeling.
I had the privilege to go camping at a deserted beach way off the beaten trails of Hawaii with a friend of mine last Christmas, and for some time I sat on the rocks, bare of all clothing, and let the waves crash over me. They would hit the rocks and send walls of spray up over me. It was... Otherworldly. Feeling to cool water surging around me, seeing the water tower above me before it rained down in a torrent all around... It was freedom, and it was the last time I felt my spirit truly soar.
You've captured a magical moment here, one that more people really should get to experience. And even though the image wasn't meant for me, I feel a really powerful connection with it because of this.

It's something I've done, too, since I grew up next to the CA coast... or sat on the rocks very nearby watching, at least. The water there was always WAY too cold to get naked. ;D Someday I'll make it back to Hawaii (I only went once when I was 7 months old, and that does NOT count) or somewhere with water warm enough to try it!
Dude, you naaaailed this one <3
The expression is lovely and so very feline, and the pose has lovely flow, but mostly those tones are totally flooring me. Going light-mid-dark-darker from background to foreground seems fresh and unusual while still totally working, and despite relatively low internal contrast, the figure still reads well. The textural qualities of sky and water and fur and rock are also nicely distinct.
Really excellent

Now I know that Argyron is the central element to this piece, and the overall coloring is superb, and what I am going to comment on is probably tertiary, but I think you have perfectly captured the "crash" and up-surge of the wave behind him. And while the seagulls are probably something you spent the least amount of time on, they really accent the whole seacoast mood of the picture. Most excellent display of artistic talent, oCe.
