Fourth Day of Christmas : el Tio de Nadal
In Catalonia, Occitania, Aragon and in the Pyreneans, there exists a quite unique Christmas tradition. On December 8th, you mount a Christmas hat-wearing log with a face drawn on on two or four wooden feet and you cover it halfway with a red blanket. Every evening, you "feed" the log ("tió") the children leaving a little food for it before going to bed. On Christmas Eve or the D Day depending of families, it is time to literally make the log shit (and that's the term, not me !) by beating it all together with sticks singing a special song. When you remove the blanket, miracle, it had digested all that food and had made small gifts and treats out of it, a foretaste before getting the real gifts later from the Magi ! Have a nice meal...
