You can if you're careful about how much water you use and don't care about losing a page or two. This is stuff I do in class when I'm bored, it's usually pretty rough because I often forget my paint brushes and have to use my finger instead. I look pretty random dipping my finger into my water bottle cap and smearing it over my schoolbook during maths. My teachers hate it, but when they complain I remind them of the fact that I'm still ahead of everyone else.
