It isn't that difficult to hypnotize an otter, as it happens (all you need is a sardine or a brightly colored hat). Problem is it only lasts for about two seconds.

no, you have the ownership process backwards... the child is being otterized. five minutes from now he'll be splashing along with his new family, while his former parents screech and wave their arms frantically, trying to get their offspring back.

By then, of course, it'll be too late. Once you've gone otter, you can never go back.

I almost always shoot with an early model Canon EOS SLR, which is many years into being obsolete but still works pretty well (I'd love to upgrade to a 7D or some such, but money's just too tight these days). This shot was taken through a 300mm lens at fairly close range, which probably isn't the most appropriate one for this kind of shooting but with otters there often isn't enough time to swap your glass out (and besides, I was hoping the narrower depth of field would look interesting).
