A 12" x 24" oil painting on panel, from 2022. I had been doing sky studies in oil for a few years prior, trying to get a better grasp of painting clouds and skies, and I figured it was time that I tried to go off and do a painting that wasn't so reliant on following a specific reference. I wanted this painting to capture a particular feeling; one of being out and wandering a ways away from buildings or roads or anything, and in the fading of the dusk light, to catch sight of something so unexpected and so striking, that you spend your time afterward questioning whether or not it was real, or some sort of imagined experience.
Would you even try to describe the experience to others?
