Smarf's life was simple, once. Get orders, carry out his mission, pose as a family pet while protecting the family from an inexplicable homicidal maniac; it didn't sound very complicated.
Then he got there, and the next thing he knew?
Aliens. A coat with a face. Superhero transformations. An Intronitis outbreak (he still wasn’t sure how that had affected him, but honestly, it was the least of the questions he’d given up trying to answer). Stick figures made of credits. The killer EVERYWHERE.
...Occasionally he wondered if he wasn’t having some kind of severe malfunction and hallucinating.
Life had somehow gotten more and less stressful since he pressed that button. On the one hand, he was pretty sure the killer was dead, and the worst of the general strangeness hadn't returned. On the other, he wasn't 100% sure, and keeping an eye out while keeping up with a life that now included family members having slumber parties and pillow fights with aliens and a detective fighting crime with the help of superheroes and his talking coat was seriously stressful.
On the bright side, no one questioned the cat in the leather jacket that could give high-fives, play piano, and shoot rainbows from his paws.
Still, he could use a break, and when he heard something moving around in the house while the Cooks were out, he'd prepared for a fight and another stressful day.
What he hadn't prepared for was a snake with the most beautiful eyes he'd ever seen.
They swirled with colors that seemed to suck him in the longer he looked, all his troubles fading away as spirals swept through his sight. Everything else seemed so unimportant compared to that... to watching the snake's eyes spin as a silly smile spread across his face, soothing hisses slipping into his mind and telling him just who he belonged to. He could only purr and pant in delight as coils cuddled and caressed his body... with spirals in his eyes that matched the snake's, tail swishing behind him, and his tongue hanging from his mouth. He knew exactly who he was, what he was to be for his new mission:
Master's scruffy servant.
