<E-Erakir! What did you do?> Cody called out, but with no real noise. Communicating on some magic wavelength or tech signal more likely, but nothing that Erakir can really hear nor receive.
However, the Moogle does properly answer the question that was asked prior. "I really needed a new set of boots! My old ones just aren't made for this weather and conditions ahead.
You have no idea how expensive a new pair can be, kupo! And this way you can easily come along with me on this solo quest, too! You can get a real feel for the environment! Can already tell we will have a great time, kupo!"
Erakir said with a happy expression, moving the new pair of boots closer whil sitting down on the bench nearby. He kicked off his own boots and started to put on the new pair.
<W-wait, I am supposed to travel alongside you.. as your boots? Erakir! That is not exaaaactly how I thought you meant th-tha-at!> Cody protested a little bit while Erakir happily puts one paw after the other into the new boots.
That sent a shiver through Cody, a very strange sensation to be in the position of boots and suddenly feeling a friend's paw like this! Sure, its what boots are for, being worn, but for someone who isn't wearable usually, this sure is more than something to get used to.
Cody's hands on this were pretty much tied up, literally so, given they are also the laces that the Moogle is tying up right now and it appeared attempts at communication do not really work.
Erakir hopped up, off the sofa and stepping around in his new boots a bit. "Such a perfect fit! Really Cody, you're great boots, thank you, kupo!"
<Y-you're welcome, I guess, ehe.> The Technimal wasn't sure how to feel about this development entirely, equally as awkward as uncertain and feeling tricked! But.. he also can't deny that this was quite a way to experience an environment.
Lets just say this is for science.. yeah.
The moogle didn't waste much time, with new boots on he put his other clothes into a handy backpack or pouch of sorts and was off to travel through the snowy mountain area!
With protective goggles, warm jacket and trousers, too and Cody as boots, he had no bit of cold bothering him, while Cody got to feel the crunch of snow in an entirely different way to before when he swiftly ran across the snowy fields before.
Erakir's journey is long and arduous, through the deeply snowed in mountain tops, down the steep glaciers and hills, into the snowy forest, giving way to a more rough mountain side with occasional trees.
All right down to a more heavily forested area, with lots of mud and wetness, at which point Erakir noticed a little problem with his new boots..
So far Cody had gone through everything just fine, travelling the environment like this certainly wasn't what he expected, but he went along with it every step of the way, kind of didn't have much other option.
The Technimal figured out he could blink with the glow of his symbols and details to communicate without words, as calling out to Erakir was met with a lack of reaction or responses,
but even that was met with a mere mention of how cool the blinking lights were and receiving compliments over how Cody made a good pair of boots.
Cody would still disagree and ask for when he'd get to turn back, but since boots can't talk, he had to find even more other options. Cody had to have some techy tricks up his.. uhh, non-sleeves!
Yet that kind of techy aspect built into this boot form would be met with the usual issue for a Technimal.
Coming in contact with a bit too much wet or watery substances and this was the perfect environment to show a bit of a flaw in the pair of boots, mostly for Erakir.
And so, the adventurous Moogle ended up swiftly recoiling after stepping just a tiny bit around in the muddied, swampy place. "Ouch! What?"
An electric shock zapped Erakir's paw and made the fur beneath his outfit, as well as his hair, puff up a bit. A gentle poke at the muddy surface revealed.. nothing happening.
"So it isn't the swamp itself, kupo." Erakir attempted another step into the water, barely high enough to reach past the ankles of his boots and yet again- Zap! Another shock.
"Oookay, Cody, I knew you didn't like water, neither do I, but at least I don't spark up lightning! We gotta get that fixed, kupo!"
<Somehow I barely feel the shocks, gotta be the form I am in.. but then again, how does he wanna fix that?>
Cody wondered while he could feel Erakir already moving along, back to a previous stop, small town nearby, avoiding any mud puddle on the way possible.
The Moogle walked up into the magical halls of an enchantment business, where the walls are lined with many priceless pieces of armor and weapons with ever more ridiculous enchantments.
Definitely fun to mess with those if one had the gold to spare, but Erakir came in with one goal in mind!
"Oi, at least clean those off before ye drag all the mud in 'ere!" The voice of a tall weasel shopkeep called out, obviously upset at .
"Nice to meet you, too!" Cheered Erakir. "I'am just in a hurry, so apologies for the mess! But my trusty travel companion here has a problem with water and desperately needs a bit of waterproofing." He gestured to the pair of Cody boots.
"Trusty travel companion, ey? Ya mean yer boots?" The weasel leaned against the counter, mustering Erakir. "So a water resistence enchantment is what ya want?"
The moogle smiled. "Exactly!" He began to take off Cody and put him ontop of the counter.
"Heckin' not on me counter, too! Ugh, fine!" The weasel grabbed Cody and pulled him over to a stone table adorned with symbols all around and a magic circle etched into surface.
<I'm going to get an enchantment, oh great.. wait..> Cody wondered. <I don't know how magic works but.. Ah well it gotta be fine, heh.> He'd chuckle nervously if he could make a sound.
The weasel wiped the mud off Cody and put the boots on the table. Etching some runes onto the surface with a crystal, the magic would soon start to take hold, flowing from the symbols, swirling around Cody and into him.
This.. felt strange, already magic masked Cody's form and now another layer of magic was stacked on top of that, if Cody's current form could shiver a bit, it probably would have from that.
The enchanter takes Cody back to the counter and hands the boots back to Erakir. "There ya go, yer boots should be waterproof. Makes sixty gold and then out with ye.."
Erakir happily pays that and slips right back into the boots, sending another shiver through Cody, it did feel a bit different though since the enchantment, very hard to tell what exactly changed though.
<G-guess we get going again immediately, ookaaay.>
The moogle darted off to get right back to where he was before, this time stepping into the swampy area with more confidence and.. nothing, no shocks, it worked!
While Cody was about to jolt figuratively more than he was capable to physically do that, he did stop tensing up after nothing happened. Was he actually water proofed?
One of the weaknesses of Technimals overcome just like this, by being enchanted boots?
Still seemed to be a backwards process with little to no regular application. Plus, Technimals weren't exactly skilled with magic.. if he could relpicate it with tech..?
Maybe, hard to tell being boots and all, but this aspect made it a much more curious thing to study.
While Cody pondered, he got thoroughly dipped into the swampy, muddy waters and was completely fine! Barring some sticky mud, but at least it was easy to clean him now too.
And Erakir could easily travel through the entire marshland! And even after that area was passed, there was still more to go through! This journey just took quite a while..
Even after passing through some wetlands, there was pretty warm and dry land to go through, surely that's when Erakir wouldn't need warm boots any more, however,..
"Gosh, Cody, you've been a good travel companion so far. Helping so much and even here! Your techiness must have some built-in temperature regulation or something, you actually feel kinda cool in this more arid, warm place. You're doing great, kupo!"
That sure didn't sound like there was intention to be turned back, well.. Cody has gone so far as boots, might as well go the rest of the way. And so it was!
Erakir taking quite a while for this long quest, making quite the long travel together with Cody. In the end, Erakir sure kept his word and so did the Technimal.
Cody helped his moogle with his equipment, while Erakir led Cody through all sorts of places.
Eventually, the quest would finally come to an end, Erakir was able to just flop and rest, kicking his boots off after taking a seat on his current inn room bed.
"Ahhh, so good to be done, to think all of this was for a delivery job!" Erakir Looked down at Cody, who was haphazardly flopped to the floor after being kicked off the Moogle's paws.
"And you've been really good to me! Very good boots, kupo!"
<Well you also kinda didn't listen to anything I could say, but yeah, heh, I suppose I was good.. Now, you're going to turn me back since your job is done, right?>
Cody thought out loud as if Erakir could hear him, which he didn't.
Still Erakir continued his own talk. "I could tell you had a really good time! So, say, wanna keep traveling together for a while longer, kupo?
You're such good boots, I totally can't imagine to go back to using my old ones! Gotta at least find some similar quality ones."
The moogle beamed with enthusiasm.
<Erakir, uhm, I'd liiike to actually go back to my ship now, I think I explored enou->
"Well I hear no complaints! Thank you for sticking around!" Erakir interrupted Cody's thoughts, just talking without really listening or making attempts to do so, no matter how much the glowy parts of the boots flashed up.
If anything, it was a clear incentive, a sign that Cody was happy with that, yeah!
<E-Erakir? F-for real, I- oh boy, this will take a while..> Although, in part, Erakir was right. Cody wasn't really upset at an outcome like this. It has been a weirdly interesting journey, but staying boots wasn't entirely an option he would consider..
at least not without a friendly push like that, it will just be more to add to a thorough travel and experience log later down the line when he was on his own two paws again as opposed to be worn on someone else's.
That is to say if he didn't just stay a part of the Moogle's wardrobe forever. With Erakir that possibility wasn't entirely farfetched.
that story got longer than anticipated but uh, this is fine X3
So, had to go overboard and silly a bit. Was fun to just play out this scenario and think it through with Erakir!

Finally got around to reading this! I must say, I'm rather impressed with how my boots managed to write such a fun story while I was letting them dry out!
Must be some of that Technimal whizzy know-how you've still got in there. Well, not gonna complain if my equipment can also function as a journal! Just makes you even more valuable!

I hold some surprises apparently! What else is a pair of boots to do, got a lot of time just doing random things during as well as outside of being worn, heh.
Luckily turns out can still connect to devices when in close enough proximity! Mmm, too valuable not to be part of your equipment? Turning back is still an option, right? X3
