Throwing back his massive head, the beast let fourth such a mournful cry that even the shaking ground beneath his paws wept, for it knew that the reptile's love would never return. The clouds themselves shook and scattered through the waves of sound emitted by that loud call. Forepaws lifting from the cliff, the great Emryss let his wings carry him into the sky, over the landscape where he cast his glorious shadow, shooting darkness over the land. The tiny lights that followed the darkness twinkled like silver glitter on black paper, and the sun itself froze into a dull, scarred white rock, scorched by its many years of flame. It was the miserable bellow that rumbles the thunder, the beat of his wings the lightning and the crack of his whip-like tail that cause the crack. His tears that filled the ocean and his back that you walk upon. It is his eyes that watch upon you as the sun and moon, and his breath that fogs the lakes. The great dragon Emryss, his new found meaning of life, is the guardian of our dear Gaia. Those brilliant silver scales, merely the size of your own simple eye and fierce amber eyes that cast shadows, and light, over our world. Our great, beautiful and terrible world...
