Character

Harm grew up on a dairy farm in the middle of the Dutch northeastern province of Drenthe. He was learning the trade form his parents, and helped out a lot on the farm. He didn't mind it was hard work, as he enjoys being active throughout the day. He would've gone exercising if it wasn't for all the farm work taking care of about 150 feral dairy cows. Harm wears an ear tag out of respect for the animals he's taking care of. His life was all around the far, and he never went far from it, not even within his own country. His duty would keep him bound to the farm...

However, Harm was well-read. If he couldn't travel around the world, he could do it in his fantasy. In his free time, he read through books about adventurous travels all over the world. He wished that one day he would be able to embark on such a journey himself. When he turned 20 years old, his parents couldn't deny such a trip for him anymore and he went on a backpacking trip throughout Europe and the Americas. It was near the end of his stint through America where his life would be turned upside down. In an old bookstore, he found a old book about beginner's magic and to his surprise, one of the beginners spells worked. The shop's owner, a magical adept herself, brought him to her back office and see what kind of magic potential he had. It turned out he could become a very capable mage specialised in life magic, which surprised him, as there wasn't any sign of magic in the town he came from. She would promise to stay in contact to help him with his magic training, as well as sending teachers from her own network to help him guide on his journey.

Harm had to train long and hard. It took him fourteen long years to become a master. But once he had gotten there, the once simple farm boy had become one of the most powerful mages in northwestern Europe. Despite all of this, he never lost the humbleness his parents raised him with. He played a key role in containing a catastorphe in the Wellspring War to save his region, at a great cost to himself: an overdose of magic turned his left arm (and dominant arm for magic) and a part of his torso into wooden vines, which feel like an plant-based prosthetic to him. Scarred from the rescue, he would become a member of the Terran Council, and would be one of the leaders of the reconstruction effort after the war.

Harm is a character that emerged from a roleplay in the Yorktown universe by  Sabrina-taur. It's the same universe the Pioneer takes place in, but 25 years earlier in the timeline. Maybe at some point, his older self will show up at the Pioneer...
