CHAPTER 63
THREE DAYS LATER...
The Stellar Federation, by virtue of hostage exchange negotiations with the League of Non-Aligned Worlds, finally turned over Faise Skunktaur in exchange for five Federal agents that were being held in that area. These five agents returned to their respective homes in Chakona, Voxxan and Raksha, along with their military units and families.
Meanwhile, on Chakona, its inhabitants enjoyed a sunny day off during the planetary weekend. The weather in Amistad was pleasant, and a light breeze caressed Topaz Bay after noon.
Before returning to Vika-B, Ugkar Skunktaur wanted to visit the grave of hys former companion, Karyom Skunktaur. Since hy tragically perished in that H1 terrorist attack on the spaceport, Ugkar hadn't. Hy was accompanied by hys half-sister Rena, hys ex-denmate Lilethe, who had recently been released from the hospital, and Doren. Finally, Esteban Sivem was also with them.
For Ugkar, it was a special moment. Karyom's tombstone looked neglected and covered in dust. It was evident that hy did not have many visitors. Rena and Doren cleaned it up and decorated it with fresh flowers. Esteban and Lilethe stood in respectful silence, hand in hand, while Ugkar sank into the reminiscence of hys ex mate.
Memories flooded hys mind, transporting hym to moments of joy, adventure and complicity. Ugkar remembered how Kariom was always there to support hym and give hym hys unconditional love in hys youthful rebellious stage. It was hard not to feel the absence of someone so special and valuable in hys life.
“It is the first time that I come here after 30 years. I am grateful to have met Kariom. Hy was the first beacon on my way. The second was you two, Lilethe and Doren. Thank you. Then you burst in Esteban with the favor of my mother Vroeg. And now Aldorah has given me what I need." Ugkar suddenly said, dressed in the purple uniform of the Federation.
Lilethe and Doren looked at Ugkar fondly and nodded silently, acknowledging their importance in hys life. Esteban smiled humbly, feeling honored to have been a part of that story and to have met someone as special as Ugkar.
“Brother, we are all glad that your life has improved and that today you are very happy with your mate. I am sure that Kariom, wherever hy is, hy is also happy for you." Rena said suddenly, taking hys shoulder.
Ugkar looked at hys half-sister with gratitude in hys eyes. Rena's presence at that moment was comforting, and hys words resonated in hys heart.
"Thank you, Rena. Your support and love have been fundamental to me. I know that Kariom would be happy to see me today, finding happiness in the company of Aldorah. Although it has been a long time since hy left, I will always carry hym in my heart," Ugkar replied, sincerity in hys voice.
Rena nodded with a loving smile. "Our family has been through many trials, but we have always supported each other. We are happy for you, brother."
“This is Ugkar. And I will always be grateful for what you and the other skunktaurs did for me at the hospital." Lilethe added with a smile.
"Me too, brother. I will never forget what you and the others did for Lilethe. I owe you my life, Ugkar." Esteban said in turn. They all hugged each other in a warm circle. Then they walked together to Vroeg's grave, located not far from there. Ugkar wanted to meet it. Upon arrival, Esteban bent down and cleaned the tombstone with his hands. Then, in a flash of inspiration, the boy began to speak.
"Hello old friend. Look. I brought you your lost son, Ugkar. We finally found hym hehe… You would be proud of hym. Hy is the bravest skunktaur I have ever met. And the best brother you could give me. There is also your daughter Rena, Lilethe and Doren. Once again, thanks for everything, Vroeg.”
"That was very nice, Esteban" Rena said with emotion. Ugkar, crouched silently and placed hys outstretched hand on hys tombstone. Hy closed the eyes and imagined hym giving hys skunktaur mother a hug from hym.
“Despite not being there physically, Vroeg still helps me. When I have problems, I always come here for advice. This place brings me a lot of peace. Maybe it's a human thing, but I really feel that hy is with me." Esteban said again.
“Our father was someone very special. Hy traveled a lot in space, but hy loved Chorre and me very much." Rena suddenly said. Ugkar upon hearing the name of hys other brother, hy declared.
"Where is Chorre now?"
“Last we heard from hym, he was working in the Voxxan Empire. Hy is a tireless traveler, just as Vroeg was. Hy followed hys footsteps. Ugkar, if you see hym on your trip to Vika, give hym our regards." Rena replied.
Then, after those emotional moments, they all headed out of the cemetery. But before leaving, they stopped in front of the monolith that remembered Esteban, raised by his family, when everyone thought that the human was dead.
“Esteban, it must be uncomfortable for you, having some kind of grave, even when you are alive. Maybe it would be good to have this monolith demolished.” Doren said suddenly, looking at the object. However, Esteban replied.
"Don't worry Doren. Let's leave it there. It was a monument raised with a lot of love for me. I prefer that it remain as a permanent reminder that life is fleeting, valuable and that we must enjoy every moment that has been given to us.” They all smiled and Lilethe took him by the hand.
"As you want, my love" the skunktaur that hy was expressing at that moment, hys feminine phase, told him with a soft voice.
Everyone left the cemetery, heading to the Lilethe PTV, which had been completely restored after the accident. Arriving at the place, Ugkar said.
“Thank you all for joining me. Rena, you were right to suggest this visit to me. I feel good and can't wait to return to Vika-B and tell Aldorah everything I've experienced here."
“It was a pleasure, dear brother. Don't forget that you have a family here too, who loves you very much." Rena replied with a smile.
"I know, sister. Thank you." Said the lieutenant. At that moment, Esteban took hym by the hand and told hym with his mind.
"Could you do me that favor?"
“Well, I must return to the Chakona Gateway. In a few more hours, I will travel back to Vika-B. But first, Esteban asked me for a favor." Ugkar said to the rest of the skunks.
“Ehhh… Yes… I want to see the Chakona Gateway. Then Ugkar will teleport me home safely, don't worry. Heh heh.” Hastened to say Esteban.
Lilethe and Doren looked at each other strangely. They didn't like the idea of separating from Esteban considering the boy's ease of getting into trouble. However, they were reassured by the fact that Ugkar was with him.
"Okay, Esteban. See you later at home. Remember we have an appointment tomorrow morning with Brianna Weir.” Lilethe said before boarding the PTV with Doren and Rena.
"Don't leave without saying goodbye, brother." Rena added after which, the vehicle started moving. Once alone, Ugkar said.
"Esteban, why are you lying to your clan and Rena?"
“Because they would never let me go to the place where we are going now. And thank you for agreeing to accompany me, Ugkar.”
“Hmmm… I honestly don't really like the idea. I'm only doing it because it's about you. I have no sympathy for that idiot.”
“I know Ugkar. But Natany told me that it was you who helped him that time in the fight against Regthar, using your power from a distance. You may not remember it, but surely, it was like that."
The skunk shuddered upon hearing those words.
"Esteban! What are you saying!"
"Now that doesn't matter. You don't need to interact with it. I just want to give him the documents sent to me by the Grom Planetary Delegate.” Esteban answered.
“Hmmm… I did a lot of stupid things in the past to get credit behind Lilethe and Doren's back. And I admit that I could have interfered in that fight… But boy, is it necessary for you to see that Renzar in person?”
"I want to do it Ugkar, please"
“Meh! Whatever you want." Said the skunk, after which, hy requested the space station to teleport the two of them. In an instant, both disappeared from the place, to reappear again in front of the city jail. There was serving his sentence, for attempted murder, Brend, the former Khudok fighter Renzar.
Meanwhile, in a downtown residential area in Amistad, Varta, Sorah's mother Renzar received an unexpected visit from her ex-partner Avik. Sorah's father, after meditating for a long time, decided to talk to her after years of solitary confinement.
"I can enter?"
["You're already here, Avik, what does it matter?"] The female replied in the Marlock language with an indifferent tone, although inside, she was surprised by his presence.
["I thought you would return to Grom along with the entourage of the Planetary Delegate."] The female began, gesturing for Avik to sit down.
[“No. Only my assistant Droquen did it. I… I decided to stay with Sorah for a while longer… After what happened to that boy…”] The male replied with a sigh. Varta looked at him sideways. She didn't remember hearing Avik speak in such a soft tone.
["So... May I know why you are visiting me, Avik?"]
[“Varta… I… I thought it would be a good idea for us to talk, after you held my hand in the hospital, while we supported Esteban and Lilethe.”]
["Talk? Avik. Don't you think it's too late for that? And holding your hand... It was just a reflex. I'm sorry for your confusion.”] The female replied curtly.
[“Varta, since we met in Chakona, we haven't had a chance to talk. I wanted to know how you are, what has happened to your life.”]
[“Avik, listen to me. Dolkun did not mention that you were here when he suggested that I come to Chakona. And I did it for Sorah…”]
[“I know, and he didn't tell me you were coming either... But Varta has been so long... I thought it would be a good idea for the two of us to talk. But if you don't want, I understand. The important thing for me is that our daughter and our grandson are well... I don't bother you anymore. I'm leaving.”] Said the male standing up. Varta, after arranging some clothes on a piece of furniture, and seeing that the Renzar headed for the door, declared.
【“Avik… Sit down. Did you hear me say no?]
The male, surprised, obeyed in silence. Then Varta went to the kitchen and prepared two large glasses of softened Grom liquor.
“This is not an expensive liquor, like the ones you surely used to drink in Gromnian high society. But it will do for the occasion.” Said the female handing one to him.
["You don't have to bother, Varta."]
["I already did. And don't you dare reject it.”] The female said, sitting down next to him. Avik received the glass of liquor in his hands with a nervous smile.
At the same time, in Amistad jail, Brend exercised his body by lifting weights with his arms and legs in the prison gym. Suddenly, a Rakshani guard interrupted his exercise routine to let him know that he had visitors. The white-furred Renzar was surprised, because since his imprisonment, no one ever visited him, apart from court delegates and lawyers. Guards escorted him to the visiting area, where prisoners could talk to people in the same room, but separated by an energy barrier.
Brend, dressed in a simple tunic, entered the room and was surprised to see Esteban, the human for whom he was imprisoned, on the other side of the barrier.
“You have 10 minutes, Brend.” one of the Rakshani guards said dryly before closing the door. The Renzar moved closer to the barrier to get a closer look at the human.
"You here?" he asked surprised.
“Hi Brend”. The human replied with a smile. The Renzar looked at him strangely. Of all the possible visitors, he never imagined seeing that boy again.
“Grrr… What do you want.”
"I came to give you this." Esteban replied, while sending him through the barrier, an electronic device.
"What is this?" The Renzar asked again. Esteban, after sighing, said.
“It is a lifting of your restrictions on migrating to Grom. Includes the cost of travel, paid by the Government of Gromnia, once you are released from prison. I was authorized to deliver these benefits to you, from the Planetary Delegate and the Chakona penitentiary."
Brend couldn't believe what he was hearing and holding in his hands. His strangeness reached such a point that he took a few steps back from the barrier.
"Why are you doing this?" He asked.
"Because I want to help you." Esteban said.
"Are you crazy or did I hurt your head too much?" He growled suspiciously.
“I just want… That you have the opportunity to start a new life.” Esteban added. Brend was silent for a few moments. Then, he gave his interlocutor a piercing look, and then declared:
"I don't need any of this!"
Immediately afterwards, he threw the electronic device to the ground and violently crushed it with one of his paws, shattering it into pieces. Esteban was surprised by Renzar's reaction.
“Listen to me, you human trash. I do not want anything from you! Go and take your compassion with you. I do not need it!" He exclaimed. The boy did not know what to answer. He lowered his head and prepared to leave the place. At that instant, Ugkar, who was staying in an adjoining room, burst into the room and exclaimed.
"What do you have in your big head, you piece of idiot!"
Brend was startled to see the same skunk that had defeated him that time with hys talents.
"The Grom Government and this boy, offer you a second chance to rebuild your life and you reject it!" Ugkar declared as hy approached the barrier. The Renzar, for his part, began to slowly back away.
"Ugkar, no." Esteban said quietly. But the Federation lieutenant had so much anger inside hym that hy continued to approach Brend, not listening to the human.
"You are a stupid! Not everyone gets a second chance.” Hy testified, recalling the occasion when Esteban visited hym in prison, offering hym the forgiveness.
"Guards! Guards!" Brend exclaimed, banging on the door to get him out of there. But Ugkar, using the power of hys telekinesis, pinned him against the wall for an instant.
"How dare you humiliate my brother, when all he wants is to help you!"
"Ughkar, please. Enough” said Esteban taking hym by the shoulder. At that moment, the door to the room where Brend was staying opened, and two Rakshani guards took him back to his cell, ending the visit. Esteban remained silent for a few moments, observing the destroyed device. Then he headed for the exit. Ugkar followed, tail low, saying nothing.
Outside, Chakastra still glowed brightly. The lieutenant did not want to disturb Esteban with words, so he continued in silence. After a few minutes, the boy looked towards the buildings of the city and after sighing, he finally broke the silence.
"Surely, you must think I'm an idiot, right?"
Ugkar, caressing his cheeks, responded touched.
"I do not think so. That's you, Esteban. That's how I met you, with a deep desire to help and forgive others... That innocent innocence of yours, that you express in your actions, is your hallmark, brother. Now I understand why you conquer people. Now I understand why you managed to captivate Doren's rebellious heart, and you made Lilethe fall deeply in love with you. Don't ever change, you hear me?"
Then the skunktaur gave him a warm hug. Ugkar felt that with Esteban hy could be as vulnerable and sensitive as hy was with Aldorah. Hy even wanted to do it, just like that time on the beach, where hy showed the boy the feminine phase of hym. Hy found himself wagging hys tail playfully as hy hugged him. After a few moments, Ugkar declared.
"To be fair, I must confess that, until before the fight with Faise, I still thought you were an idiot" Then, they both burst out laughing, as they walked together towards the center of the city.
