So we have a new resident bird and we're training him for programs so he lives in ICU where we can handle him daily.
I was walking around with him in the hall way in this picture.
I took him outside a little while after to sit in the sun with me.
He's still unsure but is a really good bird.
His name is Pip which is short for Pipsqueak because even for a boy Kestrel he is bitty.
For reference:
Behind me is our not to scale cage set up with what bird is where. Red tags are resident birds. Big white tags are rehab birds.
The blue post-it with the Owl face on it was draw by
The sketch below that is the sketch of Elsa I drew you can find in my gallery.
Yes, I always have a paranoid look on my face.
That's normal.

I drive 45 minutes to get to work.
I could not do my job if I didn't have my boys. We could survive without me working. My lousy pay for the part time this small little rehab center can afford (I do a lot of work for free) is why we have lots of food, nice things and can go to Hockey Games and cover my gas to work ( I drive a Hybrid I got for free because I went to college after quitting drugs and impressed my rather well off father so I save a lot of gas money).
My life is one big awesome Karma trip.
I have no complaints except the whole cancer thing.

I was so happy to move from my parents, a little over a year is amazing omg. Now I just want to move into a house with one extra bedroom so I can put.. another kid in it. <.< >.> and a sunroom so I can make my rain-forest with it's resident Conure that I want oh so bad. In a few years that might actually happen.
We got resident red taileds, great horneds, and a screech owl, and recently we rehabilitated an osprey that is unable to be rereleased. She's actually starting to take to the glove, which is pretty unheard of, i'm really hoping she does well though, it would be amazing to use her in programs... And of course, I'd love to handle her c:
We have all those too minus the Osprey. We only have one Red-Tail though, she's Melenistic and awesome looking.
We'll have a rehab Ringbilled Gull that isn't a raptor but is awesome. I will post a few pictures of him on my photo account tomorrow. We're housing him for a songbird rehab place that doesn't have the space to house a bird his size until he molts and can fly again (most his feathers are broken).
I want to handle the Eagles but that takes... a lot of time and since we have 2 paid employees. My boss and I there just hasn't been the time for us to work together. After my internship at the Zoo is up I will be going up there on my days off to train on the larger birds for free. Right now I can tackle wild Eagles and give them injections but I can't handle the resident ones. That needs to change.

I wear them all the time, I have a few different colors but only wear my brown and gray ones to work. I use to have hair like my fursona now it's just I dunno.. under a bandanna. It's almost to my shoulders...
I don't have time to not look like a hippie. O.o

Most people look confused if I show up not in a Bandanna. I do my hair nice for events at work but if I'm just... working I stuff it under a Bandanna, I do that for everything actually except special work events. At that point I gel it and brush it so it is... fluffy. I don't actually have the same hair-do as my fursona anymore, I use too have the same hair do, purple and all.. I'm going to get a new reference of her made and her hair might change.
We have another male we just dubbed un-releasable. We're debating on losing the chance of having a male and female pair and keeping the second male as another teaching bird because he isn't as timid and could do larger crowds. Poor Pip about dies if there's more than 10 people around him. He trained really easily but he's just not good with large groups. He will forever be a resident here but can't do large groups so anything over out small weekend bird talks is out of the question with him.
The kid DOES have a ballin' name! hahah!
And poor pip... I wish I was rich and could provide a proper kestrel aviary or something and he could do trick for me and a few friends and he'd be oh-so happy. Ohh the daydreams I have...
but cute picture. shame that you don't have a mating pair and instead have two bros.

Yea, raptors are federally protected. We're licensed to rehab them and keep some for education. We need federal permission for every bird we plan to keep for teaching as well as a letter from a vet saying it's non-releasable.
We however don't have the licensing needed to breed them in captivity.
