I shot these photos at the “Wild Lights” special event at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Kansas. Asian lantern sculptures were scattered throughout the zoo. The theme was Down the Rabbit Hole and many of the displays were based on scenes from Alice in Wonderland.
Real life bees have scared me since I was stung as a 3-year-old. This is a close-up of one of a trio of giant bees who were busy pollinating a crop of equally gigantic flowers. I’m terrible at estimating things like this, but I’d guess the bees were at least four feet long from snout to stinger.
