I dearly love oldschool games, probably because I grew up with them and I still remember my utter fascination while standing in front of the arcade machines and watching the pixel sprites flashing by. I swear that if I had been a little older in the 1980's I would have been THRILLED to do nothing but pixel videogame art. As it was I eventually DID get to do just that, but it was only for about three years before the animation department at Knowledge Adventure switched over to Flash. Oh well.

I'm not quite that old school (my gaming life began with the SNES really - although I did play some older games, mostly on the gameboy) however I've always preferred colourful, cartoonish styles of game graphics rather than games that try to look super realistic, mostly because, while "realistic" become outdated after a while, games which are cartoony/colourful never get old (fav examples include Yoshis island, Zelda Wind Waker, the Paper mario games and so on)
