Style Trial: Six Golden Coins
Here's the full (theoritical) sprite sheet I made for SML2 - Six Golden Coins. Like I said before there's quite a number of reused tiles, random positioning slides, and mirroring things that make these mess up in a number of ways, it's pretty acceptable overall though, so besides the big form tail, it can mostly work as is. Swimming or falling in certain ways can look misaligned which I can't fix very easily, and the shooting note sprite end up with fun stuff like having three hands because the arm motion uses only two tiles to form it from other tiles (my arms are noticable lower than the original Mario.) Nicely though, using only a 16x16 square actually makes the small form sprites fairly clean looking all around.
Also, funny thing is there's actually three sprite sets due to some levels being dark or in space. I didn't really bother with these a lot though because I enjoy the look of my back limbs disappearing into the darkness, and I don't especially like putting detailed clothing on my tiny body, but I still included two astronaut sprites just to try. Besides, another set of similar sprites could be made into another character all together for some extra fun.
As usual the lose sprite muuuust be flat based, but it mirrors in game so I actually turn into paper dolls, actually kinda nice. It also seems to remove a pixel (only on the small sprites) when mirroring for some reason so the front view ends up a bit thin as well, though not too noticable with how briefly it tends to show in game.
