What I mean is, human beings don't come from monkeys. Monkeys and human beings are simultaneous evolutionary decendants from the same primate ancestor. We are related, but there was a fork in the road and we went down two different paths. One path the people got less hairy, walked upright and began using more sophisticated tools, and the other got smaller, hairier, and grew long prehensile tails. The common misconception is that some group of monkeys evolved into human beings, but then others question the continued existence or monkeys. If one group evolved, then why not all of them? The answer is, both evolved from the same source, but in different directions. I just used the family tree example as a metaphor, since it seemed easier to explain it that way than a fork in the road or a splitting branch. And yes, I know that personalities aren't an inborn factor, I was just using it as a metaphor for the split differences that occur in parallel examination of evolutionary progression.
