This is a collab with a friend of mine, I was to draw his and my OCs hanging out together, and he wrote a short story to go with it.
Perhaps first, it would be a good idea to introduce the two sets of characters we got here. Jay, Olly, Callie, and Nathan. Jay, a border collie, and Olly, a fox, met through their workplace and found out they had a ton in common. Both work on steam engines, with Jay being a driver and Olly a fireman, so in their time of working together, they have grown quite close.
On the other side, we have Nathan, a german shepherd, and Callie, a husky. The two met through a war. Ain’t that somewhat weird? Perhaps. Anyway, the two had various assignments together and really got to know each other, and when both went on to become aircrew on an F-14 Tomcat, their relation improved significantly, and now the two are a strong couple.
As to how the group met, it was just a passing talk. Nathan was complaining to Callie about the wait for a seat at a restaurant, and Jay, who just so happened to be behind the two with Olly, spoke up about how he agreed. The two groups got along well, and a number of double dates thus ensued, which usually consisted of long talks over dinner or long walks along the Dallas-Fort Worth riverfront.
On one particular night, Olly’s Birthday had rolled around, but like so many in today's world, she is terrified of having “Happy Birthday” sung to her in public, and so, Jay avoided singing it to any degree in public. Callie, however, had a different idea, and of course informed the restaurant staff of the event. So, Olly had to live through the nightmare of having “Happy Birthday” sung to her by a bunch of complete strangers. Callie was completely oblivious to the fear, Nathan couldn’t help but sing along despite the worried look he noticed, and Jay, despite feeling sorry for Olly, felt it would be poor taste to not sing along too.
When the group did finally leave the restaurant, Olly was finally able to make clear her fear of the blasted song to Callie, to which Callie could only apologize as she would have never done it otherwise. But, Olly of course would forgive Callie, since Callie didn’t know any better. By the end of the entire outing, the group of 4 got a long overdue picture together, where they couldn’t seem to agree on what kind of face to make.
