I really have to say by now, this is *such* a shame that you never got to finish the story.. :| I notice myself living quite along with carnoc, and the big dissapointment he's going through again.. It's still a great story despite the flaws you keep mentioning, the quick time lapse here is one of the few i really noticed.

Yes... this was the one section that needed work more than any other, because this glosses over 9-10 months of potential development when it really doesn't need to.

So I'm gonna guess they're gonna go for temporary insanity as he has a known psychological problem or self-defense as they were treated like crap/unlawful detention/kidnapping.

That might be a last resort; they have other options to try first.

yup, there's no case for Allison, the Zoo will back him up saying she went to far. Jim, a little harder but Jim was no innocent, he had kidnapped them once and tired to do so again, Dave just has to det through his head JIM caused his death through his greed.

To be fair, she only shocked him a couple of times, but 'being annoying' generally doesn't mean Carnoc can get away with murder. They have other avenues to try to get rid of the charges, though.

Saying 'I'll kill you' before killing someone doesn't make it not murder when you kill them.

well, hopefully he can try to get parole to see his child be born, that's the least he could get, but I'm sure it's the most that those affected are willing to offer.

Well, finally I found time to type this down, so anyway: finally! After spending a lot of time enduring days of monotony in captivity(monotony, a more technical word for boredom), it actually happened! Despite the politics taking a lot of time about it(as it usually does), the bill was passed, emancipation for dragons at last! . On the other hand, it's a bit if an anticlimactic experience for our dear protagonist, the consequences of Carnoc's actions have finally caught up with him(after all, killing someone is not something inconsequential, it has repercussions). Glad to see Nesleh actually flying down to see his son( it proves that he, like others, is freed as well, not to mention watch him in his arrest in case he reacts violently). Felt a bit sorry for Carnoc, once again being restrained( thankfully not tortured, but still restraints aren't exactly his favorite). Can't blame the police though, they're new to this kind of thing(arresting a dragon) but they came well prepared anyway( Nesleh is there too). Ahh, on the bright side, after his enormous effort for advocating the dragons' freedom, Sean's actions have finally paid off and he is still going to attend to Carnoc's personal defense(what a guy, Carnoc should respect Sean more often this time). Anyway, I wonder what the defense lawyer would feel(after all, he's gonna be the first one in history to defend a dragon in court). Speaking of courts, I'm interweaves in the venue of the trial(courthouses ain't big enough for a dragon). Well, to conclude this, emancipation has finally been granted to his kindred, our protagonist's trial is just beginning. Well, I'll just wait for the next chapter then, if I can find the time to use my computer again. Well, I'm interested if any of the dragons would actually aid in his defense during the trial, but it's up to you. Anyway, I've said enough. But this chapter is very important and I'm glad to finally found the time to read this. Well, cheers!

Man, it's like these people have never heard of ex post facto laws. At least in the US, you can't be charged for a crime if it's wasn't illegal at the time. Since there was no law against dragons killing humans, and dragons were considered property at the time, Carnoc technically didn't commit a crime :P

The next chapter (to be posted in the morning) will make liberal use of the ex post facto law issue. Trust me, I'm aware. :3

I almost feel sorry now for Carnoc, he doesn't seem to be the same old, arrogant, impusilve bastard that we are used to know anymore. And did Dave not get what he wanted too? I thought he said to Alex that he either kills him when they become no rights or getting imprisoned when they do. (Your Chapternames spoilered a bit so I know there has to come something yet^^)

Yeah, being a prisoner for a long time can cause a bit of change. >.> As for Dave getting what he wanted, well... we'll see how that goes.
