Animals are different on their world. They eat bones too, so the dino is served whole.
Another thing about mixed species families, if you have a predominantly herbivore child like Tial they'll have to eat something different. But that's no problem for 'em!

With the bones being part of the meal nothing goes to waste then and saves a bit on the cleaning up. Even with differing dietary needs, it's the spirit of the occasion with eating together as a family and enjoying one another's company, so it's another heartwarming seeing the Matactl family together.
Would be the same I imagine if there were any Pattader friends who visited and joined the family for a meal, given that they're also herbivores like the Zaw-Afikh.
