I'm not. One of the big things is to start seeing it less as a sequel series, and more as an alternate timeline. Earth 2 to Gen 4's Earth 1, and that things zigged here where they zagged there.
Also, taking away the baggage of fandom expectations, the design itself isn't bad, though the fact that he doesn't look much older than the other dragons is weird, when they specifically mention him being the oldest.

That's kinda the point, she looks JUST like her old self, from the original time of the show, NOT what she looked like in the Epilogue, where no mention of anything like the current Big Bad was made.
So this is basically an alternate timeline where one new, final villain showed up, and was smart enough to NEVER engage the Mane cast in open combat, instead working behind the scenes.
