Canada in Spring. A constant rain falls, a rain that had been going all day. Everything is soaked and slick...headlights come down a mountain side country road. Windshield wipers swipe away at the rain as a mother and father talk, while their little boy sleeps in back in his car seat. They talk about a party they had just been at, the donations they made to a wild life preservation fund.
As they become too engrossed in their conversation...on the road ahead a drenched to the bone red fox trots down the road. Lights come barreling its way! The father spots something coming into view and swerves to a void it! The slick road causes the car to lose its grip and go off the road and down the side of the mountain through trees to the forest below...
Next day the search begins for the missing family, the car is soon found but the family wasn't! Those assembled spread out to look for them, but it ain't long before the ejected father and mother are found. Neither made it, they didn't seem to suffer though...The child was never found. The car seat, broken, was found empty, not a drop of blood was on it. While the search party continued to search for the next few days, they regretfully stop looking, "Nature has claimed him." One said...
Why did they not find the child?
Well, the crash was loud and nearby was someone. She went to investigate the noise and found the car. She looked around and found the mother and father. But it was the sounds of crying echoing through the trees that drew her away from the crash. The car seat did its job and saved the little boy, Loui, but it was broken enough for him to get free and he wondered off.
The little boy covered in mud with torn clothes got pretty far before she found him laying on the ground. The little boy looks up to see a wolf has found him. Her fur mixed of grays, light browns and white which is shedding away. She stares at him, trying to make sense of what she sees. Loui at this time mistakes the wet wolf as a dog and isn't that afraid of her. She paws at him a bit, rolling him over then carefully clamps down on the small child's neck, at the nape, and lifts him up. She has come to the conclusion that he is a large pup and she is going to bring him home.
Quite some distance away from the crash is her den, but the uncomfortable child squirms from time to time, he's beginning to think this dog may not be a dog, this forces her to lay him down to adjust her grip on him. The trip is long and at one point during it Loui does manage to fall asleep in her maw. Upon waking up he has arrived at her den, a small hill and a dirt cave, it's rather noisy, six tiny new born pups lay there crying away. She left to get food and she brought home a human child.
She appears to live alone with them. Loui realizes that they really aren't dogs and gets a little worried for he doesn't know what they are. She puts him down and he fears what comes next! Being devoured by this dog like creature and the little ones! She moves in and he cringes as she begins to lick him, and lick him, cleaning the back of his neck and head. Loui begins to giggle! Once she gets to his shirt she pauses and looks at him funny. He stops giggling, and turns to look up back at her, face still muddy.
She sees a puppy stuck in something, so she high paws then brings it down hesitantly till she makes contact. He's a little concerned as she scratches away his shirt and then his shorts. She tears them little by little as she pulls them off, rolling him over to pull at them on his chest. When she gets those off she moves for his boxers! He scrunches up and holds onto them. She whines ands groans as she turns her attention to his feet. She bites onto them and tugs, and tugs, till she gets his shoes then socks off. He shivers and she goes to finish cleaning him. She looks at him confused, he only has a small patch of fur and looks more like somthing else...
Alarms are going off in a dark room. Not far away a man sleeping restlessly wakes up eager to see what's going on, he goes to a computer and turns the alarm off. Camera traps have detected movement and he sees what they've captured. The mother wolf is carting something around through the woods, the low lighting makes it difficult for him to make it out. Whatever it is, it's eyes are not shining like hers. "Is it dead?" He wonders. "Food for her pups? But they are too young."
However, after patiently waiting for her to return to her den, where a camera awaits, he sees something he wasn't expecting. What she puts down is a human child, a real young one too. After the initial shock wears off, the first thought is of Mowgli, the legend of Mowgli comes to mind, but he is concerned for the well being of the child, he is young and doesn't know how to survive at his age. He gets a few things and takes off...his house has wolves up on pedestals, it is clear he really loves wolves for not a single picture of a human, beside himself with wolves in view, exist in his house...alarms go off again...
The mother wolf may not know what this small being is, but she can sense it is young, scared and in need of help, of a home. With no fur or sufficient covering Loui is cold and shivering. She carefully paws him and tugs his arm with her mouth, he doesn't get that she wants him to move. She gives up and goes to her young, and calls for him...Loui moves over to them in the back of the den to the nest and she curls up around them. Loui is covered by her fur and the fur of the little pups she places on him, warming him.
Howls...more wolves are coming. She looks out in the howl's direction, she's anxious. Loui can tell this much, he too is worried. He looks over her to see out, staying as low as possible. But as soon as are visible she goes out to greet them, tail wagging. The happy reunion is quickly ended when she gets after them, bites and paw clubbing. It can only be that they had left to get food and failed to return quick enough, forcing her to go get food on her own. No one stops her.
Finally wolves carrying food come over and she takes some to eat. A large gray wolf with a black topped muzzle moves to the pups, HE stops. Loui is staring straight into his frightening gold eyes. The one who took him in, this is her mate, and he stares wide eyed at the boy, unpleased. He begins to growl, this draws the others in to see what has him riled up. They see Loui with the pups and inquisitive inquiries begin. They sniff the boy, licked clean by the dominant female then was smothered by her fur and the fur of her pups.
Watching it on a computer sitting on the passenger seat, the wolf watcher talks aloud. "Come on kid, play the part, play the part." As they sniff about the pups begin to whine, Loui decides he will too. The wolves look confused as the big one moves in. He gets in Loui's face with his fangs beared when she comes running over, deer leg still in her mouth, she shoves him aside and growls at them. All but her mate lay down. He stands there, head high, looking down at him...he goes over to the opening and sits there.
She calms and one by one the others go to Loui and sniff then lick him. Having pulled over, the wolf watcher is amazed at what he just saw. Once more the tale of Mowgli comes to him, and he thinks, "(is this my chance to finally get to speak with wolves if this child becomes Mowgli?)", no longer rushing, he takes his time to get there. This moment is still during the storm, and he doesn't want to go off the road and miss out on this chance. A red fox is still walking down the road as the watcher passes by it and the spot where the family crashed and the parents still reside.
As it gets late the wolf pack enters the den to go to sleep. They gather around her and her young, around Loui, while the dominant male stays by the entrance.
The pups wake and begin to murmur, crying for milk. She removes the pups from a top Loui and then rolls onto her side. Loui woke up from all this and wondered what she was doing when the pups began to nurse. With how much bigger Loui is he's taking up prime real estate. She trys to pull him in, but he doesn't want to nurse from her. The others cry louder prompting her to gently shove Loui aside so they can reach her. Afterwards she ushered Loui to come back over and replaced the pups on him.
Sleep didn't last long for mother wolf aims to try again with Loui, rousing him and the pups awake to nurse. But once more he refuses and gets pushed away till they're done. Loui is feeling hungry and thirsty, but he doesn't want that.
The rain stops, morning comes. Loui is slow to wake, he is still the new pillow and bed to the pups. He looks out of the den to see the younger wolves playing while the older ones lay about. Mother wolf removes the pups placed on him and then nudges him forward, towards the opening. But he's scared, her mate is sitting there. She lays down, brushing against him as she does, pushing him away as she intends to nurse her growing young once more.
Loui moves to the opening and sits down in the light. Her mate gives him only a moment's notice before returning his attention to the playing ones. Loui watches the wolves play, though the ground is still wet the wolves chase each other about when not roughhousing in the mud. The speed they achieve even on slick ground amazes Loui.
But as he watches them play another catches wind of a scent and moves to search it- stops and returns to where it was keeping watch. The wolf watcher has arrived, he has been around the wolves and their den often, so they have become rather use to him. He sees the little boy and can tell the majesty of wolves must be reaching him, his eyes full of awe.
A red fox sleeps peacefully up a tree surrounded by fresh buds and tiny leaves bloomed ahead of other. The sun beats down on the soaked land drying it up, as the ground drys up the playful youths go faster and faster! Their joy is infectious for the older wolves join in, the whole pack begins to play together except for the oldest, the pack's mother and father. Mother nudges Loui to go join the others, but he doesn't want to get hurt so he stays out of it. "(That speed)" he thinks...
The day wears on and Loui grows hungry. "(Ah right. That kid will starve to death if he doesn't get food he can actually eat)" the watcher begins wondering what he could possibly do without getting noticed or intervening too much. Loui's grumbling stomach prompts mother wolf to call Loui over like she would her pups, which, wakes a few and they try to crawl to her.
The watcher continues to think on what to do as Loui weighs his options, looking around. He spys something and goes over to it. Watcher perks up. What child hasn't eaten bugs? Loui goes to a tree that fell well before he got there, searches a bit, then finds some bugs to eat. But this isn't enough and as the day goes on mother wolf calls him more and more, much to the annoyance of her pups who all lay against her side unable to get to her milk. He turns to her and can see her concern...his stomach crys out again and he just can't egnor it any longer and goes to her. The watcher takes notes, gleefully thinking each time the boy excepts his new family it is a step closer to the legend coming true.
That night, Loui slept well curled against her. He was happy.
A few days pass and the watcher either sleeps near by or makes the long trek back to his car for supplies and rests there. Loui would sit out in the sun to keep warm. One day the pack took off again and this time returned the next morning with food instead of presumably multiple days like the last time. During the time they were gone Loui stayed in the den to remain safe. Mother wolf would eat and after some rest the youth would once more get up to play.
Loui watches closely as they run around. The movement of their front legs and back legs. How they stood. Jumped. Sat. But it was their movement that had him the most, the thought of getting home was growing stronger each day, and with how fast wolves ran, and for how long, he began to think if he could learn to walk, run, like a wolf...he'd get home in no time.
Mother wolf cocks her head in curiosity, father wolf tries to act like he's not paying attention, wolf watcher up a tree stares in awe and amusement as they all watch Loui.
He first examined his hands and feet. He then looked to father wolf laying down, those moving around, to mother wolf sitting. And then tried to mimic them, clumsily...he looked very uncomfortable on his belly with his feet painfully kinked, butt in the air and knees suspended in the air, his neck and head up and back as much of possible. He first mimics father. Watcher almost blows his cover from laughing, but is not only capable of holding it in, "(I pray for your success Mowgli)"
Loui shifts, sitting up, looking more comfortable. But his feet are still kinked unnaturally for a human and he has his fingers bent backwards some. Chest out, head back. Proud...Father yawns and goes to sleep. Mother watches, bobbing forward like she's telling him to go on, to continue. The watcher sits with baited breath, waiting to watch him walk on all fours.
Loui pushes forwards and his rump sticks up high in the air as he takes some awkward steps. The whole pack has stopped to watch him try to walk, as if forgetting he walked on two legs, the four legged *wheelbarrow* like movement is a...step, forward to them. Well, all but the pups and father wolf were watching. "(That's it Mowgli...keep going)" the note book has the boy's real name in it. The search has ended, and he made sure to keep an eye on their movement. This means, he is well aware that the child is an orphan, no one at this point will miss him or be looking for him. But, to the watcher, the boy, Loui, is better off here...
Loui walks around like this for a bit till one of the youth knocks him over when Loui got a bit too close, he couldn't see where he was going and was glad all the wolf did was knock him over. He sits up like he normally would and once more looks at his appendages. His body was just too different from theirs. This annoyed Loui. "(Don't worry, you'll figure it out someday)" Watcher thinks. Mother wolf calls and Loui turns sharply to attention and goes to her. It was a new reaction that the watcher missed.
The days move on, each day for several hours Loui would go outside the den and try again to walk like a wolf. Fingers bent back some upon placement, curl in when risen. Heels up and on his toes with them bent back slightly too. The wolf pack watched at first, but lost interest. Father never cared. Mother, kept watching, along side the watcher. One afternoon Loui rolls onto his side, an odd movement, and grabs his right foot to rub it, he grabbed an held it like a canine would, flopping his hands round it. After a bit he moved to his left foot to do the same. He raked his nails up and down his feet oddly. But it is after that when he'd rub his hands together palm on back, palm on back, that really seemed off. Lastly, how he layed there afterwards, with a flop, was like how a canine would on its side.
This did not go unnoticed by the watcher. He made sure to jot this down as precisely as possible. Something was happening, and it wasn't just the boy copying those around him. He was too old, in watcher's opinon, to start believing he was a wolf. At least, not this quickly. He writes it off as the boy possibly doing it to seem more wolf to survive, or was unconsciously doing it. This behavior could be what he is wanting, but it just doesn't feel right.
Loui continues to do this walking training each day. His hands and feet began to deform from all of this, walking around with his weight on the ends of his hands and feet. The child's fingers started to swell as an odd callous was forming at their base and where his prints are. His feet were developing an odd callous at the base of his toes as they also grew these callouses. His fingers and ends of his feet were starting to bend more backwards without hurting him as much.
He begins to move a bit faster as well, he was still rather clumsy, but it was getting smoother. Much to the shock of the watcher! He believes to of noticed something and it can't be what he thinks it is. Loui comes out of the den one morning on two legs then gets down on four to stretch. The den is surrounded by brilliant green grass and some flowers that have bloomed. The trees are full with life, luscious green leaves fills them.
Loui sat down after he stretched out, he wasn't up to doing his routine this morning. Sitting half canine style, his right leg was down and a bit out stretched while his left hand sat on his knee. He licked his lips a few times and yawned like those around him.
The watcher was very much watching, watching something unfold before him he never would of guess would happen. When Loui decided to finally get up and move around again it was up on two legs, while it seems like he's taking a day off from his training, his body wasn't. His gait was off due to his feet wanting his heels up and he'd try to walk flatfooted uncomfortably. His hands turned half way inwards with fingers stiff and against each other. But the most telling thing was not the continued swelling of his hands and feet, but his arms.
Watcher has no real way of being 100% sure, but they not only look thicker, muscular, but longer. It would explain how the boy was moving faster on all fours, but then, if his arms were longer, what was happening to his hands and feet? It was killing him not to rush over to the boy and examine him then and there. As he examined the boy from a distance he noticed something else.
Mother wolf calls out and Loui's ears would attempt to move as he turned to look. His lobes were a bit smaller and the tops were slightly stretched out. He went over to her then sat down. But she wasn't calling her yappy pups, egnoring the little ones around her, and, the big little one, she was after the attention of her mate who had wondered off. After a few moments of wolfy behavior she seems to of told him to go hunting for he and the others take off.
She goes a bit out from the den and lays there, belly down. Her pups and Loui surround her, expecting something. But when she egnors them and puts her head down the pups begin to explore. Loui watched the six little brown fluff balls look around. One eventually comes over to him, and begins to cutely try to howl to get his attention. The watcher leans in, extremely curious as to what the boy will do. Loui's ears wiggle just a bit and he looks to the tiny girl. Minutes seem to go by before Loui howls too.
Mother wolf instantly perks up and looks his way. The six pups howl cutely and Loui howls with a voice of youth, yet with more lung capacity than the six. Mother wolf joins in much to the watcher's amazement as the pack in the distance can be heard replying...
Drinking from a stream, the red fox can hear the howling.
Loui continues his training the next day, moving around as he has been is having an effect on him, or could it be something else? Her milk? Watcher is unsure how what is happening is, but he will not look away, nor will he let anyone interfere now. Loui's fingers up to the first knuckle have swollen and look to of fused together as the callous continues to form on this swollen area as well as on his finger prints.
His feet were shifting how the weight of his body sat on them. His toes were moving as the callous on the portion of his feet that were bending along with his toes was getting thicker, same for eight of his toes, his big toes were losing their touch of the ground and look a bit smaller besides being a little further back than they should be. As he kept this training up his arms got more muscular and a little longer as his legs seem to be getting a little thinner and shorter. When down on all fours, he was now leveled instead high rumped.
Another day of up right walking has him wobbling around a lot. His growing hair sways as he walks. While on the days he trained, he didn't do it all day, he wouldn't walk around all that much and sat by mother wolf. When he did try to walk up right it got harder and harder to keep his balance. He even fell over on occasion. He was moving increasingly slower up right, and increasingly faster on all fours. "(A miracle of nature is happening right before my eyes!)" The watcher thinks. "(Almost time)" Loui thinks.
He tries to keep up with one of the youth who've decided to run circles today. But though the youth and Loui seem to be having fun together, the youth kicks it into second-gear and takes off. Loui slows, then sits down in a very canine way, though his feet stick up in the air. He breathes rapidly as he settles down. His chest looks a little different and his shoulder blades are rotating to his side. He has his tongue sticking out as he pants, and at one point scratches his head clumsily with his right foot.
He slows to a stop...and takes stock. The ends of his feet are bending more than before and the base of his toes is becoming like triangle esk ovals with the callous solely on them. His hands are doing the samething, his already small fingers are getting shorter. Callouses are on these fused/swelled areas, his finger and toe prints. His big toes have also moved little more and are smaller as they are no longer supporting him like before. He rubs his body a bit oddly and notices his arm movement is getting restricted and his ears are slowly losing their lobes and becoming longer, like rounded triangles. He also finds his hairline is moving, it's spreading down his forehead and his neck.
"(Mowgli has noticed his changes?...what's going to happen now?)" The watcher worries, the boy looks worried. Loui looks around to the wolves around him when the father howls, Loui's ears perk up some and he turns to look, almost getting up to go to him. The pack is taking off to hunt as the pups try to follow then stop by Loui. They whine looking at the departing family, even mother left, apparently leaving the pups for him to watch. The pups howl cutely, and he can feel the desire to call out too. A part of him feels left behind just like they do.
After a short bit he decides to lead them back to the den, which was like herding cats, but the pups finally go in. He did it up on two legs for a short bit, his clumsy movements scared the pups and made him too slow to keep up. Once he fell down and stood up on all fours they went to him. He then tried to walk them over, but it took a few gentle swats to paw them into the right direction.
He sat there in the den staring at them move around then going to him like he had something for them. After a bit the pups get tired and layed down. Once he is sure they are asleep, he gets up on all fours, then up on two when out of the den. Loui looks around, "(I need to go now before i get any worse!)". "-! (No no no! He's going to rabbit! Got to stop him from running off)" the watcher comes down out of the tree. Loui walks awkwardly away form the area the den is at. And once he gets a bit away "hey kid." Loui freaks out! He looks around and then sees, him...
"Are you here to take me home?" Loui asks hopefully. Watcher smiles then "no, i'm sorry i'm not here to get you out of here, Loui." Loui's surprised "You know my name?" "Yes, i'm aware of what happened to you." "If you know, then why can't you take me home?" Watcher looks sad "because, i have to stay here and watch them. The, wolfs of this pack have been the subjects of an on going research project." "But, what about my parents?" Loui is about to cry "i want to go home." Watcher thinks fast "Don't worry about your parents Loui, they're at the hospital. I've informed them of where you are, and once they get better they'll come get you. They promise." Loui looks happy
"so, they'll come get me soon and we can go hunt together?" Watcher goes *huah* with his face "i like playing with my little brothers and sisters, but i want to go back to town to relax every now and then. I miss my shows and toys." Confused further, watcher stumbles across his words "ah um, i'm, sure it won't be too long. It'll seem long, but it'll actually be less time than you thought it was." A thought! "You know how having fun makes time fly?" "Yeah!" "Just keep playing with your siblings and time will fly by," snap "just like that." Loui laughs, curls arms and hands to his chest, wiggles his butt and pads the ground with his right foot, when he stops laughing he sticks his tongue out. Losing balance, Loui remembers.
"Wait, what about what's happening to me? Is, this normal? My hands, feet, ears. And my arms are not wanting to move like they use to. And, my hair is spreading!" Watcher looks at Loui with a mixed look of confusion and curiosity "well...it's natural." The Grinch lies to Cindy Lou Who "it is?" "Yes, it isn't well known but it is very natural. Your body is just adapting to the situation you're in. You'll be fine once it's over, you have my word." "I will?" "Yes, cross my heart and hope to die." Scouts gesture "So...how is this happening?" "You are too young to understand the, scientific explanation so give me a few moments to think." "Ok...mh." looks back to the den "they're calling me, i don't want mom an dad mad at me, i better go back before they run off."
"Alright then. When they go to sleep tonight, come find me, i'll do my best to explain it to you then." "Ok!" Loui starts back on two then drops to four and runs back quickly..."(That, was close...and weird. Which are you? Loui? Or Mowgli?...or something else?)" He watches Loui get greeted by the pups and Loui greets them then lays down as the little ones play. "(Ok, what did i see?)" He hits the note book hard! Detailing the changes he was told and could see without having Loui let him examine him, which he might be able to get away with later.
Loui's ears, body, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, feet. He is clearly deformed, for a human, but Loui is quickly changing into something else. "(How long has he been out here? Let's see, spring had begun. Now over a month has gone by, he's changed this much that fast? But what is triggering this miracle? And, how can i recreate it?)" Watcher continues to do so.
The pups run around then clamor onto Loui and he plays with them a bit, his behavior is very canine, how he moves and plays with them. He lays on his side and swats playfully at one then rolls onto his back kinking to his right to remain on his back so he doesn't roll onto his side, but his frame isn't that thin yet for it to happen. After getting up and chasing the pups around for a bit the seven of them curl up together out in the open. Before they had layed down the same girl pup had gone to his face as Loui stood there and licked him, wanting food Loui doesn't have to give them. Loui lick his own lips after, unbothered by puppy drool.
"(He is more wolf mentally than physically. His memories are, mixed up. I could go with a few plausible reasons for this change in form and behavior, but his memory...it can't be the time spent here in combination with the change could-?...hm, some illnesses do cause the sufferer's mind to blurr, memorys to get muddled. He could be suffering from some illness? He hasn't had any raw food, other than the bugs...ah! Could it be, her? He did drink a wolf's milk)"
As night begins to fall Loui gets up and nuzzles and paws at the pups getting them up and making them follow him to the den. He gets them to the very back where the nest is and watches them fall asleep.
Content they won't get back up, he leaves the den and goes to the trees he had met the man at. "Are you still here?" Silence. Loui looks around, moving around on all fours. The watcher is above him, staring at Loui's limbs and hands and feet in action. After a bit he acts like he just woke up, yawns and stretches. Loui looks up. He comes down.
"I thought you were gone." Loui sits down, his posture is getting closer and closer to being a canine's. "Sorry about that, i just like being up in trees." "So, um...oh, why am i changing?" Loui trys to sit more canine. "Hm, i had time to figure out how to explain it to you." Kneels and puts out a hand, palm up. "May i?" Loui gives him his right hand. He examines it intently, moving the altering end to bend down- to palm, and up- back. "You see, this is happening because you must of been walking on your hands for a extended period of time. This bulb is forming to take your weight." "Really? I, have been walking on my hands for a while now! Same for my feet?" Loui tilts a little lifts his right foot to look at it.
"Sit on your butt and let me take a cursory look at them." Loui looks confused and looks back to his butt...then tips back to bring his legs and feet forward. "It's uncomfortable like this, i don't like sitting this way." "(Legs out in front like a human?) Hm, i'll be quick." He takes one of Loui's feet and looks it over, moving it just like he did with Loui's hand, then messing with the big toe. "It is the same. Because you have been walking on your hands your feet have shifted like so to bear your weight, and your big toes no longer hold up that weight have begun to shrink away." "Will they return to normal? I'm not all that fast like this."
He looks up at Loui "(Which way is normal for you right now?) Yes, you'll be fine, later." Loui grins then sits the way he was, though his rump wiggles back and forth "(Wagging a tail?) Now then, you've noticed how your hips, legs. Arms and shoulders. Have adjusted too, right?" Loui bobs his head "You are just adjusting to the situation." He circles Loui with a flash light to look at him from every angle "Hm, yes, you are becoming more wolf like, the way your body is changing, to hear quieter things and to understand the wolves your ears are reshaping. Shoulders and hips are adjusting for the same reason of your hands and feet. Limbs length, same thing, to level you out on all fours." "So, i~" looking himself over "~will return to normal?" "Later." "Later?...Good. i'm cold like this." "(Cold? For which reason) well when winter comes-" "Winter!?" Keeping his composure "(Crap!) I'm just thinking ahead, i'm sure you'll be normal by then. But i wager staying out here like this you would grow the two layers of fur wolfs have." "Oh, good." Loui tugs at his boxers. "What's wrong?" "They're getting tighter for some reason." "Oh. (Is he getting bigger too?)"
"Do you mind if i ask about how you feel? About how your life here is?" "I don't mind. We're a happy family!" Watcher smiles "Good to hear." "You don't want to make mom angry though, and dad, i remember him being kinder, he hasn't been to happy with me for awhile." "(He's mixing them together more, the human that sired him, and the wolf that guards him) i'm sure he's fine, just preoccupied with other things on his mind." "Maybe. I can't seem to remember my siblings, but i recall how happy the three of us were..." Loui crys a little. Watcher hesitates, then pats him on the head, Loui whimpers...
A brief pause..."You know, for your own benefit, you shouldn't come running over to me any more." Loui looks up to him confused "Why?" "While this pack is use to me. I'm not allowed by the den. I had to wait for them to all leave one day to place the camera in there, i had to take extreme measures to ensure i wouldn't disturb the place." "?...oh, i shouldn't smell like you?" Bobs his head and "Yes that's it! You have been sleeping with the pups and mother, you smell like them." "Yeah, i don't want to smell like you. My dad or siblings may not like it."
"What should i do though?" "Hm?" "With these changes verious things have become uncomfortable and difficult." "Hm hm, well, what do you think you should do?" "Hmm?..."
"...with the changes already done, if you were to stop you'll only put yourself through the transition again right now instead of when things are stable again." "Right. Then i'll just keep being a wolf!" Mouth open and tongue out! Watchers smiles big "(Good boy)" his thoughts are broken when "Say, what is your name? You know mine, but who are you? I bet mom and dad would like to thank you for helping me!" "!?...Well, i'm Connor Hrolf." "Nice to meet you Connor!" "Nice to meet you too. Now hurry back, if they wake they'll come looking for you." "Right!" Loui ears twitch upwards and then he runs back then sneaks in.
Loui finds the pups still fast asleep. [P.O.V of camera> Loui goes up to it and looks at it side eyed, then sniffs it a bit, slowly turns away from it while looking at it a few times.<P.O.V ends]. He does his best to curl round them to shield them from a direct breeze. "(This is just unreal. This is possible. This is unbelievable. This is...perfect! If i can figure out how this is happening then i can leave this life behind! I would no longer need to live vicariously through my cameras watching them go about their lifes! But actually be one!)" He sighs "(I have admired them all these years, they don't destroy nature like humans do. They have enriched it, pressured it, revitalized it!)...i must find out how this is happening. And, i must thank you, my Mowgli, you've given me far more than i thought i'd get from you." He sits there grinning when suddenly the red fox appears and scares him as it bites him, then runs off with a pouch of food sat nearby.
The next morning comes and Loui leaves the den first. After a bit he looks back and the pups come out running yapping the whole way. He finds a good spot in the sun to lay down where he can watch them well and waits for the others to return. Viewed through the eye of a camera, the pups run around at high speed like greased lightning playing together, digging, nawing on old bones, fighting over old bones, climbing on the downed tree, Loui fell a sleep and the pups blitz Loui and the lot of them run circles for a bit till the pups grow tired. The shadows stretched out fast as they played, now with the sun growing near its departure it leaves the P.O.V of the camera.
"Mh, where is everyone?" The pups are getting hungry, they nuzzle his face or his side as he lays on his stomach with his legs both to his right. He looks around when they let him lower his head down long enough to do it. He remembers mom had to go get food for his sibling before. "Do i have to go get them food now?" They whimper, they want food. He wraps his right arm around one and pulls it in and rests his chin on it. The others move in and lay down. They stay there for a while as it grows darker and darker.
"Ok, we need to go in the den now." They refuse to move, pouting. He groans and looks around "What am i to do?" He looks to them...their necks. He bobs his head, he went to lower to one...Now he lowers down as he opens his mouth slowly...stops and raises back up to look around...He goes to bite one at the nape, it whines loudly and he drops it. "Mph...i'm sorry." He does it again and lifts it up, whining away. The others get up and look at him as he half drags it to the den. "(I'm sorry, i'm going as fast as i can)" the others follow and they gather around the one he moved, she falls silent and looks up at him. "You ok?" He nuzzles her and she licks him "good." He grins.
After awhile the pups fall asleep he leaves the den and looks around. He can't really see well, it isn't a bright night tonight. He looks around squinting, trying to see. He then picks a random direction to go in. He looks around, moving very carefully, quietly, to avoid possibly being found by something up at night that won't like running into him. His steps are getting quieter, like he knows what to do. He keeps low as he moves.
Looking around he wonders what he could actually get for them they could eat? "(I can't bring anything down..can i?)" He wonders far, when the sound of rustling branches is joined by cracking and a THHHUNK! Scaring him! He goes to check it out. An old tree is losing its branches little by little on one side making it tip the other way. He searches the branches to find a nest with egges in it. "Perfect! -!" He looks around...nothin...
He looks to the eggs and wonders "(How am i going to get these back? Not one by one, it'd take too long, and i may not find them again)" he stares at them then after a bit sighs and goes to grab one, but his hand just doesn't work quite like it use to and the egg slips free "(why can't i grab it?)" He looks to his hand for a few moments, not registering his thumbs are a little shorter, then thinks on how he moved the pup "(right, i don't use these)" he goes to bite an egg, stops "(no, i might break it...the nest)" he bites onto the nest and lifts it, carefully. Once up in the air he slowly turns back "(i hope i'm going in the right direction)...hrmm?" Looks down, his vision is adjusting to the low light, he sees his own peculiar prints in the dirt. "(This way!)"
Up the tree is a frustrated red fox, the egg-cellent meal it wanted was just poached. The red fox scrambles out of the tree with intent on getting them back, but sunny side up a rabbit scared into moving because of Loui becomes its next meal instead, it was over easy.
He goes through the forest following his own tracks back, being able to see them easily. He makes it back to the den an finds the pups unmoved. He puts the nest down and thinks "(They may not be able to break them without hurting themselves or swallowing some of the shell...what should i do?)" He stares at the eggs in the nest, cocking his head to the side, then the other, tryin' to figure out a solution...then he decides to- chomp! He carefully bites the top off of the first one, when he pulls away "-!..." inside is...He stares at it with shell in his mouth, dripping yoke...he spits the shell away and goes back in...
He wakes the pups and pulls them over to the eggs and they squabble at first, he yells at them, a sort of "Hey!" That has some force to its start that could be a bark! They look at him and whimper. He lays bown and bobs his head at the eggs with a snuff, exhale. They each pick an egg and begin licking away. Connor missed it now, but he'll have it on camera for later. "zzzzz"
Morning's light comes and soon comes the howls. The seven wake up and go to the opening. Loui stretches out, hands on the ground stretch ahead of him, fingers splayed out, leg stretched tall, rump skyward, he opens his mouth an sticks his tongue out, yawns...he sits, licking his lips. It's faint, but his jaws are a little longer, nose lightly pushed out at the column and nostrils. His shoulders and chest are also more changed, yet his chest isn't thinner, for he's still getting bigger. Hair or fur is growing steadily down his forehead and neck as his hair seems to stop growing any longer.
Mother charges over to the pups who are not as hungry as she expected them to be. Father was on his way to his spot, but smelled something and went to Investigate it. He finds the nest and six baby birds...he looks up, no where for them to of come from. He looks to the pups, then to Loui who is slow to join them at mother. After Loui gets done and walks off father goes to him. Loui sees him coming and lays down on his belly, far more comfortably than when he first did it. Father goes to him, looks down at him, then spins round and plops down against Loui's side. The first contact he's had with father, and Loui lifts his head in awe, then grins as his rump wags. Father grumbles, Loui remains still...but is happy!
Later father has returned to his spot, the pups play, the older youths play. And the rest keep watch. Mother looks to Loui and then to her pups...change is coming.
Tug of war! A sizable stick, or branch, has been found and the youth use it to strengthen their jaws in a game of tug of war. The older wolves pay no mind, while the pups mimic with a flimsy twig. Loui is trying to catch up on his sleep. But he is awoken when the branch hits him! He spazzes awake and the one holding it looks regretful, this one wants to play with the growing Loui. Loui looks up at the begger, whining, asking for Loui to play...Loui gets up and bites it, it slides out of his mouth the first jerk of the other.
Loui didn't have a good grip of it, he tries again, this time he is given time to get a grip. A tug and *let's play* stance by Loui's opponent! Loui tries to grin but can't, he does mimic the posture...the two beg- it's over. "Again." Loui first said, followed by confusion from his opponent, then Loui grumbles and lowers his head ready to grab the branch again...hesitation...opponent lets him try again. But once more Loui loses virtually on the first tug. A groan then a huff, on to the next. Loui is abandoned. He watches as they play without him. He lays down and whines. Mother egnors him as she licks a pup that went to her for attention.
Loui continues to whine when he realizes that someone has approached him. Father sits by him. Loui stops whining. "(Well, it seems that he is no longer the mother's child, but the father's...i wonder how he will react to what is to come?)" Connor wonders, having not watched the video yet. Later, Loui looks for his own stick, when he eventually finds one he tries to hold it down as he bites it and pulls! Though this stick is smaller, he isn't able to keep a grip on it. He looks to the others playing, having fun, and becomes depressed. The little girl pup watches him.
He goes to nurse later that day but mother bats him away when he does. He trys again and she looks at him and growls. His ears, lobes almost gone, little longer resembling a rounded triangle, droop some and he walks off. Father watches but doesn't move this time. Loui sits off on his own...The little girl pup goes to him later, licks his face, then lays against him.
