[Concept Art] Banyan Canopy
Concept art sheet I created for the canopy level of Banyan from Second Star, a planet in orbit of a red dwarf with a thin band of swampy jungle that exists in perpetual twilight. Includes a seated astronaut for a sense of scale on the massive native trees, a modular Pop-Up Laboratory perched on branches, the suspended frame of a communications tower, bark texture samples, and sky color concepts for various times of day. :) I'm really fond of this one, these were so much fun to paint!
Second Star is still in active development. You can play our demo on Steam. The UI and quite a few of the core systems have received a full overhaul since the demo release, but it still does give you a great sense of what Second Star will be.

It's because Banyan orbits a red dwarf star and is tidally locked, meaning only one side ever fully faces the star. That side of the planet is too hot to support life, and the other side is too cold, so all these jungles exist only in a thin band of "twilight zone" between the two.
