"Normal" picture of myself that's not all grumpy: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5461475/
My nose is not actually pierced.
I've been interested in ink and piercings for years, since like high school 7 or so years ago? The first picture of Keto, surprisingly still on VCL, is kind of proof of this interest I have in it ( http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/Keto/Keto.jpg ), as well as a lot of really old pictures of Keto. Side note, I love modern Keto ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3871922 ), WAY better than old Keto.
Tattoos were a matter of me being scared of the pain and not knowing what design I wanted.
As for piercings, I originally wanted gauges. As gauges became more popular, I sorta shifted to wanting industrials... and now recently, my interest has shifted to my nose instead of my ears.
The angry face was artificially created for fun of this picture! I swear I'm not usually grumpy!
I never went through with piercing mostly cause of my fear of the pain, truth be told. :P
No idea if/when I'd actually get it done. But I like this picture enough to post (and I like when other's post up to date pics of themselves, so I like to participate in that).

Lol, I think anybody who knows me, knows I'm not the type to get aggressive or throw a fist or anything. :)
While actually thinking about the piercing stuff and all, I was thinking how the perception of piercings can kind of go multiple ways:
1) Trouble Maker
2) Creative
I tend to lean towards number 2. ;p I've always been into art... into modifying... customization... so I think it's kind of the link to interest in piercings and tattoos. :)

I have a septum piercing and (besides my ear lobes when I was 8) it was my first piercing. I've since got a cartilage piercing in my ear, and the cartilage poke hurt worse than the septum. D: I love the septum piercing. For the first couple days I couldn't touch my nose much, and for the first couple weeks it was a little sore, but now I forget it's there sometimes.
I don't have a ring in it, only a retainer, although I plan on getting a ring soon. The retainer is nice because I can choose whether I want to show it off or not that day.
So basically what I'm trying to say is: Get it done! If you don't like it, you can always take it out. The brief pain is definitely worth it. :)

Piercings aren't permanent, which is why they're nice~ :D
My septum piercing is just a 14g, not too big not too small. I might gauge it a little bigger, but I'm not sure yet.
I don't know if you can start right off with a 4 (and if you do, it'd hurt a lot), but you can start probably at a 12 and stretch it.

*hugs* Just cause you aren't overly enthusiastic on "body alteration" doesn't make you ball-less. *nuzz* I only have one lobe pierced cause the other started feeling .. well it started hurting as it healed, so I took it out. I dont have any tattoos cause, well I don't like needles. It may be only one, but its one again and again and again and again and again for hours! That and there's just other things I'd rather spend my money on. :-P Though I do wanna get my lebre pierced. *hugs*
I don't plan to get any piercing that's stretched out too much. I think that's a slight appeal of the nasal piercing, if for whatever reason I change my mind, I can pull the piercing out, the hole will close and heal up, and nobody will see it, and it wasn't stretched too much either, so scarring would be minimal. :)
There is plenty of turning back. Piercings are not permanent, especially ones in the nose. If you take out the piercing, it can close within fifteen minutes. At the longest, it'll take a day or two to close. Personally, I don't find piercings all that dramatic unless a person has too many or has gauged it huge.
Hehe, I was just saying to someone up above the thread:

I definitely don't want people to be scared to approach me, cause I'm far from unfriendly... I mostly did a grumpy face for just that photo. ;) I think in real life, the piercing wouldn't make me look too scary cause I'm usually smiling anyway, LOL

I noticed but they're still fun and the thing people don't realize about stretching their ears and wearing plugs/tunnels (gauging and gauges are actually incorrect terms but whatever lol) is that the earlobe is REALLY elastic tissue, Unless you stretch your ears SUPER HUGE they'll shrink back down, maybe not CLOSE but they will go down. The lead singer of a band I like had his up to 2 1/2" or so and he's left his jewelry out and now his ears so far are down at my size (1"). On top of that, so long as you don't go bigger than 00 your ears WILL shrink back down and usually will close up from that size. And even if you do go super huge if NOTHING else you can get it sewn shut. Example: this dude had his ears HUGE (I think 3 inches) and now with those stitches out they look totally normal again.
All that aside, septum piercings are pretty swag! I don't think I'd look good with one but I like them.

Oh god, that picture made me cringe! Lol
Yeah, even when I had my interest in gauges, I never wanted to go too big. I never wanted anything over 1 inch, and I never really feared them NOT closing. :)
But man, I would hate to stitch up anything. I'm a wimp. My pain threshold is low. :P Having a needle in my nose scares me enough! ;)
I think I only want one piercing... either my nose or ear, not both.
But yeah I think part of it is whether or not it fits. I dig certain things, but sometimes it only really WORKS with certain people and stuff. :)

Yeah, I was mostly just posting that here for anyone to read with the misconception that you'll grow old with 5 inch saggy Buddha lobes just because your ears are stretched a little haha. That doesn't happen. They're cool to have though! I've considered going above 1" a lot but honestly I've spent so much on the jewelry I have (which really isn't that much at all) that I don't want to size up and make it all useless. Plus I figure 1" is the biggest I can go and still get hired and most places haha. I can't say anything for septums since I haven't had mine done but I know getting your ears pierced is practically painless, I did mine myself, and stretching so long as you do it RIGHT (aka SLOWLY to allow time to heal between sizes and avoid scarring) is also pretty painless. So long as you don't go crazy huge which you just said you wouldn't you wouldn't have to get it sewn up haha. As far as fitting goes I could deff see you rocking it haha. Also LIP PIERCINGS ARE WORSE THAN EARS as far as pain goes, though I want to get mine redone regardless.
NOT TRYING TO PERSUADE YOU, I just get into talking about all this because I do/like it haha.

Is it just me... or do I think that wouldn't suit you that much...? ._.
Maybe it's just because I perceived you differently, but I honestly think they just wouldn't really fit.
And since you said you'd be smiling mostly, you should have taken a pic of you smiling.
PS:
You're adorable x3

There's a nice balance of people who dig it and people who don't :)
I sorta get that every now and again, with or without the fake-bull-ring... how I'm perceived differently. Lol, but I think I'm comfortable enough with myself to still get one despite how it might look.
I'm far from mean or grumpy, and at cons, I ALWAYS tell people to not to feel too scared to say hi (even when I don't wear a fake piercing ;) ).
Hahaha thanks xP

I have that piercing done and it really wasn't that bad, a quick sharp pain and a bruised feeling for a little bit after. It wasn't nearly as bad as getting my wisdom teeth removed.
I wanted to get a bunch of tattoos for a long time, but now that I'm nearing 30 and haven't gotten any, i sort of gave up on it. I would even say i'm glad I didn't get them. I like my body being uninked.

you know I got two tattoos and I am not a fan of piercings at least not when they are on me. I think I am a tattoo person after all.
At least piercings you can get them out again when you got feed up. I have one tattoo that I got with 14 I loved it back then but now I hate it. So just be sure about what you want :P
I personally think the ring dont fit that well but that stuff is about what you like and not others thats really important :)

Hahaha, the recovery is the only really scary part... oh and the actual piercing part... but after recovery, I'm sure sneezing won't be an issue.
I feel like there's a good mix of people who dig it and don't dig it... but I can't help but still really dig it myself. I can't help but like the idea of having it, and since it's so low-risk, it only makes me wanna do it MORE. :)

General rule of thumb, if you're piercing cartilage, it's going to hurt more than if you're just piercing flesh. So things like septum (inside your nose) piercings, and industrial piercigs (through the cartilaginous part of the ear) will be more painful.
Piercings themselves can be both fun, and a pain depending on how they're done, and where they are. For example a nose piercing and a cold are not good friends. And if you have any pets that like shiny things you may be in for some interesting situations. I had to have help once removing a very fascinated ferrett from my gold hoop ear rings, and I have on an occasion or two had one pulled out by a playful dog.
Of note, all my piercings, I've done myself, and I've done a number for other folks. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, ask around and find a reputable piercer in your area. Someone that knows what they're doing can make the whole thing a lot less painful, and the actual piercing will be over with in seconds.
Which reminds me, I still hve to do my right ear 2 more times. :)

Honestly, Septums are painless, it was that case for me anyway. The aftercare I will admit was a big bitch. In the end though, I regret nothing. Septums rock, Guages, or plugs/tunnels are okay, too mainstreamish, and industrials are cool, depending on what direction you want yours to go :P
You should go for it if you really want it!!!
Got my last name tattooed across the upper part of my back and got nipple piercings which some say are just as painful at piercing through cartilage. Tattoos are not as painful as some make it to be, mostly depending on where it's getting done. The outlining is usually the painful part, but the filling in is nothing. Piercings are not bad when getting them done, but they might be painful right after, not to mention the adrenaline rush making some people sick.

Where did you get the ring for faux-septum piercings? I've been looking for one.
As for industrials, I have one in each ear, and I must say they didn't hurt to get so much as they hurt to sleep on while healing. If I could shave my head and look good that way as you do, I would definitely tamper with my ears more, though it's not as if short-cropped hair would meddle with ear-modifications either.
Anyways, your nose. Good look! I would encourage a nasallang but if you do fear pain, it's not for you.

Wow, I can honestly say I never expected you to look like that. Were I to ever meet you at a con, not knowing it was you, I wouldn't ever have talked to you. You look like the kind of people who bullied me through high school.
Anyways, that was off topic. You've got balls for even considering it. I don't think I could ever get any kind of piercing.

Awww, well hey, 'profiling' can be bad. I'm usually smiling, especially at cons, so I like to think a nose ring wouldn't make me look too scary if I'm all giddy and waggy. :) I promise I'm like the furthest person from bullying anybody. XP
and yeah, the piercing pain is still a little scary!

Yuh could click a leash to it...for ANY reason yuh see fit! ;D and old Keto was a good looking wusky, like muhself, he also looked cute next to that big piece of cake (like the one on muh blue shirt, you remember? http://www.furaffinity.net/full/5202980/) but I'd have tuh agree with yuh. Modern Keto > Old Keto
Do it. The septum piercing doesn't go through any cartilage, so it's relatively painless. I had mine stretched down to a 2 gauge, but I left it too long and it shrank down to about an 8 or so now. I manage a hardware store, and one of my favorite tricks is to stick a 3" nail through it while waiting on an unsuspecting customer! Nothing tops it for starting a conversation.
PIERCE YOUR PENIS.
No jk don't do that. I like the septum ring, but I wouldn't go as big as the ring in the pic. I'm a pretty big fan of bod-mod stuff, and I used to want to get all kinds of piercings. (Ended up settling with eyebrow, bridge, nipples, and a dermal punch to the tragus) Thing about piercings is that it's easy to be overwhelmingly lost in all the shiny weird shit in your face. Piercings are often in the way, a negative point on anybody getting a job, and they can be annoying to take care of too. Septums are sweet because you can get a horseshoe ring and just flip it right up into your nose for easy hiding.
Get a tattoo! :] They're awesome. But yeah... They hurt like a bizich.

the pain is ok :P its nothing like getting kicked in the balls :) i mean when i got my nose done it made a few tears drop but it was more of the fact knowing some one was going to shove a sharp thing into my nose rofl andd i got to say every hole i have had a ring in wasn't as bad as alot of people told me -shrugs- if you are bad with getting shots as in it makes you wanna cry or passout or even curl up in a ball not your thing but :P but then again i love my pa and that one hurt like a mother fucker :P
Hahaha, DON'T TASTE ME, BRO! Lol.
What's funny is I couldn't even hold that serious mean face expression for too long until I just had to laugh!
I was telling a few people above who said I looked sorta scary and how they wouldn't wanna approach me... Was telling em how I'm usually smiley... Especially at cons, so even with a nose ring, I would think that with a smile and laughter, the ring would hopefully not make me look scary, lol!

I'll give you my totally noncommittal pros and cons!
- Piercings heal up quickly if you decide not to keep them. This one in particular, very quickly - and invisibly. You could demo it and give it a test run to see how people reacted and how you felt about the maintenance responsibilities and unforeseeable quirks of having the piercing ("omg it's way harder to blow my nose now!") - then if you just decided it wasn't something you wanted, you could take it out.
- you can get a retainer for this one and opt to "have it or not have it" depending on the day of the week. If it's pierced right and depending on the shape of your nose, the retainer is invisible and nobody would ever know if you didn't have the ring in.
- you may not like the maintenance requirements if you're prone to site infections, irritation, bleeding, etc. - I've also been told that having a cold with a septum ring is... a real experience.
- you may find that people don't react to you socially the same way when you're wearing it. This particular piercing makes you look a little tougher and more intimidating than your average ear piercing or lip ring, so there are some bonus consequences to wearing it around. While it might come across as "creative" in a gathering of creative types, it's going to make moms in elevators clutch their children closer.
- Some people get an added boost of confidence from things like a bull ring or a PA - it can make you appear sexier BECAUSE you're more confident... but if it's something you're unsure of, or someone you want to regularly make out with (hint hint: tibs!) is visibly turned-off by it, then it's going to do the opposite: it's going to make you doubt yourself and be more hesitant about people's reactions to you... so his support is a big deal! :)
I think I'm a bad candidate to ask if it makes you look scary... because I get a big chuckle out of the photo. Your sweet, kind personality is completely at odds with the serious, tough image portrayed in the picture - so the whole thing just bounces off my brain and yells "DOES NOT COMPUTE!" *lol*

Stretching involves pain for awhile, so I hear. Especially in colder weather. :P
And here's a tip for making tough guy/meanie faces, just imagine you're smelling something really bad. Should evoke the right face right away! Works for me every time. haha
And you should get some (face) tats! Ink cant get ripped out!
