Being asked to impress him, we give the census official such a show. Lights! Colors! Whatever that was! Not bad for our first improv, though how long we can keep cover is still a concern.
With food in our bellies, we can actually look at our inventory, and see that we have a few shapes stored. None are particularly useful right now, but perhaps some day...
Votes:
Outlook: We should approach this opportunity as... (Indulge, Be Wary, Escape)
Echo Level 2: The character-defining power, for what direction we go in. (Shapechanger, Shapetaker(Nice/Naughty variants), Shapemaker)
Echo Flavor 2: The statistically upgrading power, to make us do the thing better. (Extra Power, Extra Language, Backsies, Power Scan)
Still applying for jobs, still writing YCHs. Two good job prospects at the moment, though both early in the process. I hope! I dream.

Though Shapechanger sounds nice, Shapemaker is what will really help us not stand out too much. It would be strange to be someone's identical twin all the time, and taking shapes just seems wrong. Furthermore, polymorphing - at least right now - is just asking for trouble.
As for the second flavor, it's a tough choice. All of them have their merits, but I think Backsies has the best of all that's being offered. We get to keep a language, power, and form on backup, and combined with Shapemaker, we can call upon any of them at will.

Green, not a creative color? I'm hurt!
In all seriousness, very nice (and creepy) inverted colors! Perhaps concerning as well, however I think it miiight have swayed me in a different direction.
Outlook: All have potential. I think we're in a bit of a murky grey area right now though. On the one hand, magical school means being around more potentially interesting and useful powers and people. On the other, I'm really, REALLY not liking whatever we might have missed in that conversation just now. Might've been harmless, but words like "bad" and "allowance" could be bad when referring to us. For now, my vote is for being WARY. I get the feeling we might need to bolt in a moment though. Echo may be fantastic at copying shapes and creatively using abilities that are new to them, however, I get the feeling they can't always be subtle. If we've gotta be creepy and set off to f e e d, as convenient as it would be to have a magical school right there, it would mean even more security and danger, probably. Let Lore have some (potentially?) better living conditions, while we leave and move on from this place.
Echo Level 2: Ummm... SHAPEMAKER seems like a safe option, and it seems to go with some of our vibes, being a sort of different, warped version of some of those around us, someone/something that doesn't even have to let an ability like copying abilities and forms from defining us as a single shape. I can't lie though, just the nice is tempting from a tactical standpoint (go chase them, not me!). And, there's that hunger still, and a huge interest, in making some changes around us, whether it means getting rid of shapes (just the naughty), or mixing things and people up (shapechanger)... This ones tough, choosing between "function" or "fashion". For now, I'd say if we can get away with actually being quiet, Shapemaker is the way to go... If we're being kept in one place for too long though, or there isn't any opportunity to conveniently f e e d, we might have to change someone or something else, take or change someone else's shape in order to make a noticeable diversion, while we go. If we've gotta be weird little us, we can still use that. Who said being subtle was the only way to stay out of the spotlight after all? Go, notice the transformed or shapeless person over there!
Echo Flavor 2: Language is tempting, but no, not yet... If it's looking like we can't make our escape, and we end up sticking with Lore at Magic School, I'd say Backsies. That way we can prowl around, feed, then head right on back and take on the current rat form again. If it's looking like the stealthy route is no longer completely viable anymore though, Power Scan. Extra Power IS useful, however it wouldn't do us any good to have less than useful abilities stored. So seeing what we have to work with first seems good, maaaybe?

Shapemaker is the most covert options here, and as much as I want to push for the more overt/manipulative Shapetaker, it looks like we aren't going to be to seizing our destiny right now. I will put forth my vote for Extra Language, as it furthers our long-term goal of knowledge, and our immediate goal of knowing what those census workers are talking about.
With us sticking with Lore for now, and I think she'd let us turn back into her after copying one of those workers to learn the language. I'm sure she'd want to know what they were talking about too.
