Being a disappointment, an embarrassment to the family since childhood. Too weak for an heir, too painful. Too wrong. Constantly proving his right to live.
A disgusting childhood that produced a cold and unscrupulous Count. Smart and calculating. Ruthless but fair.
Realizing many years later that he would not get even a fraction of the power, the young Count decided to do something terrible - he poisoned his entire family, leaving the only continuation of the ancient family. He was more than happy with that. Inhuman and detached from everyone, he ruled his land like a true dictator, but from this rule life flourished.
Until one moment. A fateful day in the life of the heartless Count.
Years later, an unknown disease broke out on his lands, which the peasants said was sent to punish their ruler. The disease decimated livestock, subjects, crops. It struck the Count himself. The disease destroyed his already fragile bones from the inside out, running bloody sores through his body. No one knew how to cure it and the count was doomed to die.
However, an unknown herbalist came to the court, who assured that she could help.
The count in desperation let her in, and she helped, but her arm and leg were irreparably damaged and had to be amputated, and her face was barely saved.
The herbalist was at the yard until the disease finally receded. She nursed the man with such care as he had never seen in his life. Unselfishly worried about him and was there for him. It was then that the Count's sick and tortured heart melted like an ice flake in the sunlight.
One day, she came to the Count with two prosthetics and a mask.
The prosthetics were unusual, the herbalist had performed some ritual on his blood, he could no longer remove them, but those obeyed him completely like lost limbs. The next morning, nothing gave any hint that the herbalist was even there, she disappeared without a trace, without taking a coin.
Without even saying goodbye.
The Count became obsessed with her, wanting to find her again, wanting to feel the warmth and care of her hands again.
Wanting only to make her his.
