Amulet of Power

With the tale of the Dragon Necklace now behind me, and having finally been able to travel to a capital, I was able to do some more research on this strange object that we brought back to the the dragoness, and what I found was quite interesting... Enough to make me wonder if I shouldn't have kept the item for myself, but hey, better luck next time! What I found in the grimoires is that magical item is called 'The Amulet of Power'. Used mainly by mages and scholars, this item is very useful for anything involving the manipulation of magic. More specifically, it would help the user to cast spells. Maybe I'll finally be able to do more than just detect and identify magic! So much good potential wasted... Anyway, I digress. From what I've read, it allows the wearer to reduce the fatigue and exhaustion caused by the use of magic by using the energy in the necklace rather than the bearer's, which would more simply translate as the ability to cast more spells or stronger spells while the necklace contains charges. Because yes, the necklace does have a 'charge', for lack of a better term. Also, according to the writings, the stones in the necklace have an energy limit, and exceeding it can cause, and I quote, "an explosion big enough to level a city"... Luckily that didn't happen at the well! Although I think it has some sort of protection in the enchantment to prevent that, as the writings say more about not overloading it than they do about criticising it. Perhaps that's just an exaggeration?
Anyway, getting back to the necklace, it recharges naturally, without having to go to a power source or anything like that. It can recharge naturally over time, and the speed at which it does so depends on the stone used. In general, the rarest stones seem to recharge the fastest, as diamond is the best, being able to recharge in a week without use, and the worst is quartz, which takes a year. The one I had was an amethyst. It charges in 1 month. Which can be quite long. Especially as mine had two stones and from what I read. Each amethyst takes 1 month to charge. A chance it did not have 4! Although it must be very powerful as more stone translates into more power and four is the maximum you can go without it overloading as mentioned above. On the other hand, it's not surprising. A necklace of four amethysts has an astronomical value of 17680 gold coins. You really have to be rich to afford something like that! I'm not sure that Ether's vaults were worth that much before this fall, so to put all that on a necklace, I hope he can make a meteor rain for that price!
Oh, and one small detail before I forget to mention it. I've seen theories that the necklace technically steals the wearer's magic by draining the wearer of it. During this charge, the individual may feel weaker. This would be more pronounced with more powerful stones like diamonds, but the information on this is contradictory, so I don't know who to believe. But whether it's true or not, I'll make a note of it here in case I find another one and wonder why I'm suddenly more tired, although, let's face it, it won't happen.
Finally, it would be possible to make rings instead of necklaces, but rings can only have one stone, and wearing multiple rings seems to have harmful effects on the wearer. I haven't found out exactly what these effects are, but it doesn't look like much fun, so the necklace seems to be the best option for this kind of enchantment!
So here's what I've learned about this item. It's an interesting item, and I'll keep an eye out for it. Whether it's for my own use or for resale, it's still very practical. Especially if it's a gold necklace with four diamonds! I could buy a city with that!
