A piece for string orchestra. Dedicated in memory of Knut (Dec. 5, 2006 - Mar. 19, 2011), the first polar bear cub to survive past infancy at the Berlin Zoo in 30 years. He died on March 19th and this piece is for him in Polar Bear Heaven.
The piece itself is a waltz in rondo form in B minor. I thought about polar bears and Knut, and I could see bears dancing gracefully. They're such beautiful animals.
The thumbnail picture of Knut is from the German Wikipedia article on Knut. Music is written in Finale 2009, recorded with Garritan Personal Orchestra. Score and parts are available for live performance.
