A terraformed Mars-cum-planet Maxwell would be visible through an Earth-based telescope if anybody bothered to look before they embarked on their journey. Apparently no one did, so it's a surprise for them to discover only now that the global climate has iced over.

No one bothers to look. They don't think like we do. Neither one of them would have ever seen a telescope, let alone know how to use it. It's taken nearly a century for the nonhumans to evolve to the point where they're starting to become curious about their world. It's quite possible (even probable) the two Creators knew, but didn't tell Jet and Reezon for whatever reason (possibly worried the news would discourage them from going.)

So I'm curious. Ice Planet is Mars when it's atmosphere froze up?

Roz could best answer this, but to the best of my knowledge Mars was terraformed - made more massive, wetter, warmer and habitable for human life, and renamed after Maxwell the creator. The atmosphere itself hasn't frozen up, but for whatever reason the planet did not stay warm enough and became an ice world, about as habitable as Earth's polar regions. Life persists in sheltered places.

Damn it's been sooo long since I read the original I've forgotten a lot about what happened and HOW it happened. Thanks dude. Nice to see another 'farmilar face' from long ago here.
