With the absense of moonlight, the not being able to see is rational. Cats can only see well in the dark if there is some light source their eyes can magnify, so this makes sense.

If you are looking out a window at night and your light is on, inside, you cannot see outside at all, until you turn on a light outside.

technically, i have perfect vision minus my being color blind, but thanks to being color blind, i can actually see in the dark better than most people
