Sean's been spending months protesting the unwilling captivity of the dragons. Isn't it about time somebody in a position of power actually listened to him, and talked to him about it?

Another short, peaceful chapter. And yes, I made the government move ponderously slowly on purpose--both out of irritation at my own country's slow, bureaucratic, frustratingly conservative government, and as a dystopian callout that the big "perfect world" "super society" idea wasn't so hot an idea. (I really like dystopian novels.)
Comments and critique greatly appreciated.

To copy how I responded to another comment on SF:
The UN still has to write the bill, debate the bill, send the bill back to committee, revise it, debate it some more, hold hearings about it, find funding for it, prepare to vote on it, have it filibustered back to committee, then compromise and put in some unrelated provisions to pander to the other party, then vote on it again, barely pass it, wait a week for it to get signed into law, wait another couple weeks or so to get around to implementing it, take two months to set things up... Then they'll get around to freeing the dragons.
So, yes. The bureaucratic system. >.<

I don't buy point 1. The US behaves almost as badly now as the UN in this story, first of all, but all I'm really going for is to give the "worldwide conglomerate super-society" a dystopian feel, with the terribly run government, mutant badges, utter loss of national pride and identity, and so on, with Canada providing the quick, adaptable, intelligent, well-run foil.
Still there is an independent streak in the US that I don't see for Canada, remember Canada is still part of the UK empire. If a UN gov was to be As I said US would be in your Canada's position. Not to mention us people would not like the UN ID thing. but it's your story in the end.
Republicans all over the country (the Southwest especially) are clamoring that everyone be required to carry proof of citizenship on their person at all times, and it's a very small step of imagination from that to the 'UN Universal ID' of the story.
You may be right about the Canada vs. US part, though obviously it works better for the story the way I have it. :P

Well I gotta say I've been away from my computer a bit too long but here it goes: Finally a politician with enough sense to seriously consider the goal of Sean's movement. Furthermore, it's someone from the UN itself too. It's progress at least(notice the title) but when concerning drafts like these, it's not easy with all the complicated twists and turns of the political system, since I know that bureaucracy is never straightforward(with redtapes, repeals and all). But, I still admire Sean for his efforts(some of it finally paid off, at least. And the anti dragon movement? Oh please, not another group of ignorant shitheads! Dragons and Armageddon? Hell, it's the supermodern futuristic world for goodness sake and those are probably nonsensical beliefs of some religious fundamentalist nutcase who take Bible themes too literal( I grew up in a Roman Catholic family but we're an open minded bunch who don't throw our weight around just because of our religion, anyway dragons maybe depicted as evil in the scriptures but it's probably symbolic rather than literal( the described dragons in the Bible are grotesquely weird) and we believe more in forgiveness and salvation, not that the world will end in a jiffy). Probably this movement belongs to the category on senseless hate groups( Nazis, militant religious fundamentalists, the Ku Klux Klan) and therefore they are just as hysterically nonsensical for all their beliefs. And I see that the threat of a trial still looms for our protagonist but I still believe that there are incriminating evidences to support him in the event of a trial( coercive devices and all). Well, I've said enough but this is another satisfying chapter to read about, I don't believe in quick fix solutions to their current condition but still I'm not eager to see the end just yet, I like reading through each chapter as if it were.reading each sequence carefully leading up to it's eventual conclusion. Well, I don't have frequent free time for my computer nowadays but I guess I still patiently look forward to the next chapter. Cheers!
Yeah, since ancient history, certain people always try to find something to spite about(xenophobia, racial hatred, religious issues, separation of class, differing political ideologies and even gender!), hmph! As if a trivial and natural reason like gender differences is justifiable! Well, there will always be people like that(hating something is what they devote their lives to? To hell with it). Ah I see it's gonna happen and when it does, I bet it's gonna hitting the global headlines as the most sensational TRIAL OF THE CENTURY!! Heh, sorry, couldn't resist.
