Lilac's creation was actually an accident.
When BlacNight tried to take over Canterlot. She and Twilight got into a fight.
One of BlackNight's spells, didnt hit Twilight, and instead was sent flying through the sky, in the direction of Ponyville.
This spell then crashed through the window of Rarity's Carousel Boutique, landing on a mannequin that was in the window, displaying a "work in progress" outfit.
Due to the strength of the spell, the first thing that filled Lilac's mind, was many whispers to hurt, damage and even kill those around her.
and given how Rarity and SweetieBelle were the first ponies she saw, they were her first and only targets.
Once Lilac's head cleared, and the whispers in her head vanished. All that was left of Rarity and Sweetie Belle, were 2 piles of mush, that couldnt be identified by anyone.
Since Lilac was a mannequin, she didnt have the means to speak, so, she took Rarity's voice box, putting it into her own throat to give herself a voice.
Once the spell wore off, and Lilac's eyes went back to normal, she saw what she did and it messed her up so much that she doesnt go outside during the day. And when she goes out at night, she hides most of herself with one of rarity's black cloaks and a large hood.
As for the bodies? they're still rotting in Rarity's bedroom, where the incident happened...
