I totally know what you're talking about. They're pretty much the same size (if slightly smaller) as a Great Dane.
The thing we've learned with ours is that you have to walk them every day for at least half an hour. If you do that, then they'll be fine normally. Or, alternately, put up a bunch of squirrel feeders in the back yard and have them chase squirrels.
