Yep that is correct for normal operation of the weapon. My point was that if for whatever reason you need to change the arrow you've loaded (say because it's bent or needs a new head or whatever) then you always loosen the draw first to remove the risk it might accidentally snap forward and either fire the arrow prematurely or take a few fingers off.
Course that's a more modern day safety tip so maybe I'm just thinking in the wrong time frame. D'oh!

Woah! An expert in Medieval weaponry I see. I agree in a close quarter melee a Hammerhead axe is a great weapon for getting through armor and doing great physical damage. Still, for a fellow like me who's never swung so much as a hatchet for most his life, I prefer the seemingly "Cowardly" method of using projectile throwing weapons. That is... After Negotiations fail.
Oh I think a archer is as brave as every footsoldier.
But it is complicated to fight an enemy in a swamp like envirement. Especially when you are a heavy equipped Soldier of the Holy Roman Empire and the enemy is a west-slavic Obotrites Warrior who wants to defend his home.
