Salamander and Slug

The eternal struggle of life between a salamander and a slug in the battlefield of damp moss. These neat orange salamanders seem to materialize out of nowhere whenever it's nice and wet and not too cold.

Upstate NY in the Catskills. The pic was actually taken on the grounds of the old Concord resort hotel. I'm not sure what species these are but there are lots of them around up there.
Just stumbled upon this photo now, but I joined FA like 6 years after you put this up.
Anyway, that salamander is actually an Eastern Spotted Newt, or Red Eft (same species, different terrestrial stage. Newts and salamanders are pretty much the same things, just different sizes and names. And that slug is just a tasty little green or garden slug. Just a good juicy surprise! =D
