She knows the line is "Happy Halloween", she's just much too flustered to think of it at the moment. You see, rather than something traditionally scary or spooky, this year Maria wanted to feel pretty dressed up as a character from one of her favorite movies, and it seems she has failed to consider the power of her social anxiety when confronted with such things as compliments and stares from strangers. Yeah, she's kind of overwhelmed at the moment, but she was the one who volunteered to stay behind and distribute candy to the Trick-or-Treaters. It was either that or be pressured into attending the Halloween party with the rest of her housemates.
