The more artists i see complain about a.i. the more i realize how limited their own opinion of their art is.
The sheer amount of artists who go "a.i. can't make good art" but also go "a.i. is takin' our jawbs!" in the very next sentance.
Which is it. Can a.i. replicate your style to a T to such an extent you are worthless, or is a.i. a shitty novelty that a good artist can still do better than? Both can't be true at the same time.

It's true AI generators are getting better at stealing the hard work of artists, with less fecked up fingers and faces.
The shittyness comes more from the fact how unethical it is:
AI art is just plain plagiarism, but instead of stealing and tracing one artist, it can steal from multiple artists at the same time. Or roam a whole gallery of one artist, without concent.
AI art generators are a threat to multiple professionally creative people. Writers were the first to suffer. Then Artists and music makers etc.
Big companies would take stolen art over hiring a person to do it if they could. But luckily no-one can own an AI generated picture and companies that hold up AI generators are sued and held accountable for training their AI with stolen art.
More rules and regulations need to come to the use of AI.
I'm proud of FA banning AI pics.

All well and good about them banning it if they want to.
That said, where are writers being threatened by a.i. generated writing? From my experience, even with how "advanced" these things supposedly are, they can't go more than a few paragraphs without steering completely off path, adding wacky seizure text in, or just referencing outright copyrighted media which clearly would invalidate it unless someone wants to buy licenses for bowser and darth vader to somehow end up fighting satan.
It's not just a "well it's not there YET" arguement. A.I art is excessively limited, and much like how people are having to be forced into using self-checkout in many stores because they refuse to use it without being forced: people will still prefer human-made art.
The only people who are going to flock to a.i. generated art, are the very people artists already complain about. the "i'm paying you in exposure" crowd, and because of it, you'll see a bunch of uninspired, copycat art with little to no actual value.
Which means artists will be just fine. Because the a.i. is going to be wielded by a bunch of lazy, cheap people who can't make anything good anyway, thus real artist art will stand out by default.
Thus my point about how bland artists complaining about this view their own art. They think an uninspired, lazy, cheap jackass clickity-clacking into an a.i. art generator is going to create art that can put them to shame. How low do you think of your own skill that you think that you can be replaced so easily?

If you see someone steal your work and post it as their own, it's not "bland" to say: Hey, that's wrong and I do not consent to it.
The only thing AI should be used to, is to "inspire", but it's being misused to replace artists or make money with stolen content.
Nothing new is generated, just stolen art mushed together through filters with lazy keywords. There is nothing creative about it, there is no-one putting their thoughts and feeling into the pic. No-one making creative decisions. It is not art, it is plagairism.

Correct, except the majority of complaints (something seen even in your previous response) isn't even about the theft, it's about the fact the a.i. is replacing artists. Even in your comic, it goes from 'lets steal' quickly to 'lets make art so people never have to go to artists again! mwahaha!'
So clearly the theft is more of just a cover... especially since i didn't even mention it, but now that i'm calling out the real issue, the singular issue that every artist always jumps to, the one sole thing the artists all bring up even when they don't bring up the theft: the fact that artists are being in some way harmed by the a.i. by having people use it instead. (which by the way, you still didn't answer where writers were impacted by the a.i., something you egregiously claimed, so provide evidence.)
This is the problem. You think your art is replaceable. There's a human element in art that isn't replaceable, and when i point that out, you started going "but muh stolen art" you make money using patreon and commissions primarily. The plagiarized works have no affect on you. Unless we're now going from "pirating a videogame isn't theft" to "metalica was correct to sue their fans for pirating a song"? Because i remember that being an example of agents and bands being overly greedy. The context is basically the same. You put forth hard work, you created an object, someone else downloaded it, edited/modified it lazily, and spread it around (technically the latter falls under fair-use more than the former, even)
Look. I WAS trying to state that you should be more up-beat and confident in your own abilities, since the human element can't simply be replaced... but honestly i'm finding it an insult to the intelligence of your audience that every single artist that complains about a.i. art always jumps to the same "but muh theft and plagiarism" the moment anyone tries to say "a.i. art can't replace the human element, so you're fine"
It sounds less like you're upset that a.i. is copying your work, and more upset at the fact that you can't make money off the a.i. even though it's a 'sale' you weren't going to make in the first place. In other words: the artists on this point, always just come off like greedy corporate businessmen who are so stuck up their own ass they don't understand that people who download their work weren't going to buy it in the first place.

Anyone should be livid if their work was taken and somebody made money with it.
AI generated art is no different from Piracy. You cannot stop it but you can do things to slow it. And after the big lawsuits against companies like open AI, global regulations will take place.
It does not matter if people create AI pics for their "own fun" or "for references"
but posting the pics publically is absolutely wrong and stupid.
Like posting a stolen piece of art, claiming its yours.
If you want "prove" how AI generated art is hurting artists, just google
"How AI generated art hurts artists?"
or "Why writers are suing open AI?" and read the first article that opposes your views.
If you've decided your opinion is fact, then there is no point in talking. People today isolate into groups and only listen to people who agree with them, making their opinion sound more like facts. When the thruth often is a gray scale and everyone is only looking after their own interest. I am an artists, so yes I am biased for artists and will take their side. I am also proud of my work and will defend it from AI crap.
Your text has no compassion towards artists, more like bitterness. Even though you are in a fandom that only exists thanks to artists in the first place.

My text holds bitterness not for the artist, but for the attitude of artists who decide to constantly throw art like this up. When one or twenty people proclaim a position that people already agree with, people will, obviously, agree with it. If they go to a place where their opinion is already agreed with openly and within the very rules of that place, then their proclamation sounds less and less genuine, especially the more of them make it.
Some reason you seem to have forgotten that sites like FA already said "ai art is banned" so you're not just preaching to a choir, you're proclaiming 'ai art bad' to a resounding audience who, on multiple occasions has already had to say "we agree with that statement"
Then to add to it, when someone's response to 'ai art is gonna take away my job' is 'how, you can do better than the ai anyway' and your response summarizes almost unanimously to 'but muh money' then you're clearly not actually up for discussion anyway.
It's funny you're wanting to say "if you've decided your opinion is fact, then there is no point in talking" since you're the one who had already decided that the moment you posted the picture in the first place. You're also not "defending" your art, you're openly stating that you are scared that the ai will be able to impersonate your style successfully enough to steal work from you. That's not you defending your art, that's you hoping someone ELSE will defend your art FOR you. On a site that is ALREADY defending your art FOR you.

Agreed to disagree.
I'll gladly oppose AI generated pics. To me there is nothing good about them.
They just hinder skills of people who use them. Its a shit shortcut, that will never teach them to draw themselves.
AIs are trained illegally, scraping pics without consent.
They are used wrongly, to push down real artists and make money with their work.
And that is that.
The little fun people are having generating pics, does not outweigh the damage it does.

The thing you're not getting is everything you said is not stuff i disagree with. I'm saying you posting a thing going 'ai art bad" on a site that already said "yes, we agree, ai art bad" is just being annoying.
Imagine going into a gay bar and every time someone new comes in, they shout "homophobia is evil!" you'll either start getting very annoyed, or stop going to that bar. You're one of the ones doing that. Sure, you could do this in Itaku, or Deviantart, or Twitter, or bluesky or one of the millions of others, some of which haven't banned ai pictures yet. But you choose here. A safezone you don't expect to be criticized for saying it on. Thus why people eventually will turn against the "ai art bad" idea. Because the places it's already been banned? people STILL have to hear about how bad it is. You do more to hurt what you're trying to say than you do anyone any good.
Reminds me most of all of a couple decades back when traditional artists were rallying against digital art, claiming digital artists "Weren't real artists" at this point. A decade from now because of the constant annoyance people will get over hearing "ai art bad" you'll eventually see people just stop caring, and then in the end like some traditional artists, you'll be in one of three camps. Either you'll hybridize it yourself, you'll either become indifferent and simply keep working on your art (which would still make you money, because people STILL will prefer the human element), or you'll quit, like a bunch of traditional artists did in 'protest'.
That's the thing. I HAVEN'T disagreed with your points. You've just completely decided to disregard MY points.

Your point is you are annoyed artists are expressing they don't approve AI generated pics? Artists tend to express themselves, whole art making is expressing yourself.
The reason why gay people still talk about homophobia is because it is an on going issue. And they need to vent/express themselves. Sometimes the safezone is the only place they can do it at.
I left twitterX, cos it was a shitshow.
But I still see AI generated pics here too on FA and the reason I made this dumb "comic" in the first place was to express my own frustration seeing people proudly post AI pics here.
It lets my followers know I disprove of AI and I want them to know that, so they don't do it.
If artists in the first place had not expressed themselves, people would be scraping their art and posting it publicly, selling commissions in their name and sites would not have done anything to block AI generated posts. It is important to express you disapprove, especially when it is an on going issue. There are still many people who don't know AI is harming artists.

The fact that, you finally decide to at least acknowledge my points, and from that, you went "lets misconstrue every single word he said as malevolently as possible" in order to make your point, shows what type of person you are. You want to claim i'm the one who is bitter, yet when called out for your own refusal to acknowledge someone's arguements, your response is to still simply try to strawman the arguement shows you're just a greedy person. You don't give two shits about the topic any further than lining your wallet, just like 90% of the artists who are complaining about this. The exact reason why it's so annoying. The exact reason why you'll post this here, but make excuses for why you won't post it elsewhere. You expected you wouldn't get pushback here, and are too cowardly to post it somewhere you expected pushback.
Damn artists, so greedy, wanting to get paid for their work and keeping their rights to owning their style and years of practise, not giving it away to a machine. Damn them for wanting to get minimum wage and making people happy with their art. Damn them for expressing that they are unhappy when we steal from them. It soooo annoying, ugh. I wish they were more like my precus AI, it never thinks or has feelings and it always delivers me fingers.
I've posted the pic to every site I post my stuff to XD
Not gonna make an account to post it to sites, I already don't like.
Bye mr. Troll

Artists have right to protect their work and talk about abuse. No matter how annoying you annouce that being doesn't remove the fact. You are just one who praises something before it even got regulated and misuse being brought to daylight. Now that regulations are slowly rolling forward while people talk more and more about illegal use and scraping, you feel rather like a little girl whose lollipop got stolen.
I think you should pay more attention on what or who came first. We can't even count the amount of hours, all the investments on materials and tools, software and devices all the artists have used for creating pieces of art which then just got scraped. There would not be even digital art without traditional.
I don't say AI "art" is necessarily bad. It's just AI "art". It's not human-made art and shouldn't be anyhow compared to content it has been trained on nor use flooding sites which are meant for art. You won't post your self-taken shitty photos to art sites either.

Tell me you didn't read a damn thing posted without telling me you didn't read a damn thing posted.
The whole ordeal beyond the complaining means literally nothing to me. I have no skin in the a.i. game, nor an interest in using a.i. to make pictures. Hell, i already made it clear i don't think a.i. will be able to copy the human element.
Your response is exactly WHY it's so annoying. You're either "yeah! great stand, artist! you hate a.i.!" or you're suddenly a sympathizer. It's the only way you people think. It can't be "yeah. I think a.i. isn't that great, but this is like the seven hundredth time this has been shouted in the past two days. and we don't even allow that here anyway"

You're not clearly an artist who does this for living so what you said was a HELL lot easier to say than live it. That's the problem: you literally came to wrong place to tell your opinions when nobody asked.
Yes, I have made my own investigation about the topic, AS AN ARTIST.
YOU ARE THE ONE WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE EVEN TALKING ABOUT, THEREFORE YOU JUST DO THINGS WORSE.
Also, I think it wasn't my fault in the first place that you get drowned to your own talk here when I look how many comments you have. You could just have walk away, but instead of that you saw it so important to keep on talking.
Someone like you talking too much just increases the risk to be misunderstood, too. I have showed your comments to my friends and all of them were asking: "Why this guy just can't shut the fuck up?"
I think that tells more about you.

The fact your friend's responses weren't to point out flaws or discuss refutations, but to say "he should shut up" says plenty about their lack of understanding and thought themselves, actually.
Same is true for you. Say what you want, and this'll be my final statement on the issue: whenever an issue is resoundingly agreed as positive, but people keep complaining about the negative, eventually people stop believing the positive IS a positive.
You keep this up, soon enough a.i. pictures will become more accepted, and eventually anyone against a.i. pictures will be seen as harassers. It happens every time people do shit like this. You sit there telling me how you have an experience that i don't have, judging me as if i haven't ever tried to make art (if you said i was a BAD artist, you'd be more accurate, but i HAVE actually tried. It's usually pretty shit.), but in the end people will get sick of hearing "a.i. art bad. anyone who likes a.i. art bad" and people will start becoming more and more accepting.
You "did the research" yet didn't bother to look through history, like everyone who ever does these sorts of things. History repeats when people refuse to learn and well done. You're already proving. By this time next year, a.i. picture will become more widely accepted, and FA will probably even be relaxing their own stances on it, my guess, to something akin to modified a.i. pictures being allowed, because the artist did work on it.
This happened with MANY things in the past, it'll happen to this too, thanks to how you and others are acting. Call me an idiot, call me a monster, call me evil whatever you want to do, you, mr mapolomi, and others like you, are the ones who will usher in a.i. pictures being more accepted than anyone like me will.

I pay every artist i commission. I've never advocated anything to the contrary. You can even see from my list that there's quite a few things i've commissioned and labeled it as such, as well as giving proper credit.
So what point are you trying to make with this? because clearly you're trying to take a jab at someone without even doing so much as checking their page out.

yeah. Either that or he is paid to write that
or one of those sad existences that never tried to draw, cries about it and is hateful toward anyone who tells him to at least try rather than use AI.
These people , if he exists, is the biggest reason to ban AI art form anywhere.

Agreed, I lately got lost on Reddit where someone posted a pic about "Nightshade Antidote" (Meaning the train model which would block Nightshade. Nightshade is a Glaze-kind of artwork protection for poisoning the models) but seems now that even the Nightshade haven't been published yet XD
Anyway, comments in the post were from AI bros mainly, none of those fuckers who have never even tried to draw or know what the art and doing it is, were ranting all kind of bullshit XD
Funny how the generative tools make suddenly regular persons so arrogant x3
Also, it's completely legit to protect your work :3

This IS a time when people have already realized that AI stuff was never a root of the problem, also that there was never truly a problem like we imagined. Did you really think people still have exactly same opinions than back in the days? :)
I have read all the comments through and god it was funny, good ol memories. Definitely one more thing completed on my bucket list x3

Both can be true. And just for ONE Reason.
Companies will drop quality as fast as possible if they can save money to pay the bosses bigger bonuses.
There are already Layoffs happening because of A.I.
https://futurism.com/insider-layoffs-ai
And I hear from some artists that work in development teams for Games that at least HALF of their team is only working on training A.I. And do you think that these artists will not get fired until the A.I is complete?

You wanna know how to counter this? It's simple and effective: create your own business.
I know this sounds like such a task... but if the quality of the work is dropping (and it will SIGNIFICANTLY) then you don't even need that much money. Look at how often an indie developed project skyrockets. People desire quality and when it's given, even if it's low-budget, it often gets praise and resounding applause.
In other words: if the corporates are cutting people off and making worse quality projects, they just opened themselves up to be replaced, and you can do so easier than you could prior.

This sentence completely sounds like you're blaming the artists are at fault for being replaced.
To me A.I "Art" is nothing but plain Diarrhea that a programm puked out. Everytime I look onto deviantart. There is only A.I on there now. A.I Adopts for like 2-3$ and then you don't even OWN the design, because A.I Generated Images can't be copyrighted.
And there is STILL the fact that sites like Twitter, Deviantart, Artstation and co changed their stance on A.I so quickly and everything you have uploaded is already fed into an A.I because they had a standard Opt-in feature and didn't tell anyone.
if A.I is such a great and Righeous thing, why do websites need to do something like this so sneakily?
For now about a month or so, I get daily DM's from "Artists" that ask me to commission them, and Every fucking time when I ask for references or a portfolio they send me a few random A.I Generated Images and try to scam me for a few hundred bucks.
And the WORST fucking thing currently I have witnessed is PIXIV. There are SOOOOOOOOOOO fucking many people who now make almost Photorealistic Childporn and upload it there.
Yes, that happened before. But not in Photorealistic quality, and not in that large quantity. The A.I Uploads are often like 10-100 pictures in a single upload. They get spammed by that shit. And it will get worse from here on out.
I'm so happy that FA Decided to ban A.I generated images. Already had around 200 tickets of people still uploading that crap, and a few even trying to say that they did actually draw those images. With all their mistakes...
The A.I following is just P A T H E T I C.
Just look on youtube, on how many tutorials you find with "easy way to scam people using A.I etc.." and Fiverr is another portal that allows that shit.
But you can deny that this is happening all you want. You can tell Artists that they need to go with the flow and just change their ways to still be able to pay their bills. A.I is Bullshit, and Corporations will happily throw out actual artists, writers, designers, programmers when they can. Because Human work is not worth SHIT in their eyes.

So essentially... any time someone doesn't suck up to a corporation, and makes their own work, it's aparently only because corporations snubbed them, according to your ONLY reasoning as to what that statement means? Scan your brain some. see if there's ANY other way to interpret that, that DOESN'T?
Maybe the context given above, that the "in other words" indicates the sentance is referencing a prior statement, a statement in which it was pointed out that companies choosing to get rid of people and lose quality will open a great opportunity for people who don't use a.i. and drop their quality (y'know, a point you even said was a thing, i simply pointed out the GOOD side to it?)
It's funny you point to DA, since, it's not corporations dropping people because they can streamline the process with a.i. (which was what you tried to argue with me from the start, and then tried to turn me into a villain over. almost like you chose an egregious and cherry-picked example so you could claim the majority was like that).
Also whats this "if a.i. is so great and righteous". so now you're accusing me of saying a.i. pictures are great? News to me. Since i'm literally arguing that artists won't be replaced by it since it misses the human element of art.
How about explain why you'd be hyped about artists begging you to commission them? Am i missing something in the commission game where i can put some sign up to get access to artists asking for MY permission? because most everywhere i go, artists are going "yeah... i got so many people wanting to commission me, i'mma be doing a raffle to see which one of you deserves to pay me this month" (which contrary to how it sounds, i welcome, because it means they're a good and reliable artist, as well as proves my point that clearly a.i. isn't replacing them)
As for pixiv. that's on you. i will 100% victim blame you on that one, because pixiv was filled to the brim with child porn before the ai. 'apocalypse' anyway. Place was a fucking cesspool. it's what people claim IB is. That one's on you. Doesn't matter if now it's "different" because it's photorealistic. Just get off pixiv.
I'm indifferent to FA's ban, it doesn't affect me because i prefer to commission artists i enjoy the style of because i want to fund their art and because i enjoy the interaction and quality they produce. So a.i. pictures being banned has no effect on me.
By the way. Your last statement proves my point about your scummy "i came here to villify, not to discuss" mindset. You clearly want to paint me as a villain when i have been clear that a.i. won't be able to make the art as good as the artist. You clearly are just trying to portray me as a monster, without even bothering pay attention to my points. You saw one thing and went "*gasp!* I can construe this as EVIL! so i will do so! because clearly there's no way someone saying 'corporations reducing quality opens the door to others having an easier time in the industry creating quality' is saying a good thing! they're clearly EVIL!"

This is very well articulated and I agree 100%, thank you ^^ <3
I lately posted a long text on my Telegram channel about the topic, funniest thing is that sites allow flooding and actually don't care TRUE creators leaving. I have never touched to any image generators and why should I? As a versatile artist (traditional, digital, physical crafting etc.) they couldn't bring me anything new. I have already hundreds of gigabytes of references, self-taken photos and so I have collected and created during the last 15 years. I can also use process images and timelapse videos to proof I have done my work myself.
Regulations are on the way and they are never just one-shot but evolving when misuse increases. And EU's own upcoming regulations have already a lot of improvements, like possibly forcing companies to expose the training data. Not forgetting that authors sueing OpenAI is the biggest lawsuit since opening the internet to public, also that NYT might sue them and if they win, the fine sum is at astronomical level and professionals said this all probably changes fundamentally what you can train or do with AI. OpenAI's tired arguments for "fair use" aren't valid as they literally replace the original businesses, funniest thing is that they know what they are doing and move the responsibility to users... The scale of abuse is just too big to be ignored anymore and this is exactly why artists should know their rights and protect their work.
I keep my galleries, channels and servers as a safe haven for people who appreciate high-effort art and not that cheap AI crap :3

The only thing that would make this even better, would have been if you made this with AI. x'D lol
But yeah, as an artist myself (even though I do not post much of my art here n FA anymore these days) AI "art" and the people using it for "fun", saying it is harmless and that artist won't be put out of a job and everything, is pissing me so very much off.
People do not get what is wrong with it... With so much ugly as shit images generated and posted as if they are art (even sold as if they are true art pieces), is increasing. Soon it will see a majority on every place you look, and will drown out all the actual art. Making it more difficult for people to find artists, which will make it impossible for artists to get work, which means less income, which means they have to start to get another job, which means they won't be able to make art as often as they want & should, which means that they will have slower work efficiency, which means they get less work, which again means lower income and everything. It will create a vicious circle where eventually no real artist will be left, and corporate people will have their free art machines.

I haven't touched an AI generator and rather keep it that way. I also would never post anything AI generated.
Yeah. Egos love to justify to themselves, that they are not doing anything wrong when they are harming people, cos they benefit from it. Was it money, following, free art etc. I saw so many people on Twitter getting follower by posting AI-crap. Or even selling AI generated commissions, which is the worst bullshit there is.
Completely agree. Things will get out of hands without proper regulations. People are easily corrupt when it's convenient.

Oh, I know. Same here and I wouldn't want you to even touch it with an infinitely long pole. But it would have bee such irony if an Ai generated image would tell the risks and the dangers of AI generated "art". lol
Same, same. I just do not get it. Even if it is artists just trying it out for fun. Or anything like that. heck, doing it as an artist themsleves is even worse, as it instantly taints your reputation and makes peope who love and are in support of AI generated art flock to you and drown out the real appreciator who came for their own art. And because more people come to see their AI generated shit, they will be less likely to draw themselves, because it gets less engagement. And thus they will slowly start to pivot more towards AI generated trash, and eventually they might even forget that they themselves were actual artists themselves...
And yeah. Regulations are definitely needed indeed. and even though governments are starting to talk about it, they have yet to actually come to a world wide agreement about all of this...

Nice to see other traditional artist here ^^
I have started to post timelapse videos and posting more traditional art and crafts in order to show that I can actually do "something" instead of "nothing". I know in this unfortunate situation when many people generate pics, you just need to stay believable and be able to proof your workflow being non-corrupted. I have noticed that people actually appreciate that a hell lot :3
Nobody can force anybody to use AI generators, not even trolls by winking that they think you should or something lol XD. I think it was really sad to see some real artists being called out and people blaming them using AI, just because someone trained the generator by using their content...

LOL ain't this shit so true. But it is getting sad how many people I see in the furry community defend using the unethical side of AI, especially when you're starting to see people use AI hybrid "art" (in which the majority of the work is through AI but clean it up to attempt to make it indistinguishable, but it's still obviously). Not a majority by any means, but a still concerning amount :v
Yh, sucks.
I also hate when people ask real artists, is this AI made? Since its getting harder and harder for them to separate is it genuine work.
I've seen few works made with AI that I thought were artist made. The scraping is getting better sadly.
" It's the tool of the future "
If they never learn to finish pics themselves, they are the tools, giving away the chance to improve their own skills.
