I see that Toothless's paws are more thoroughly tangled in bola here than in the scene; good thing, since I could see no reason he couldn't get out of it in the movie. That still leaves fire of course, but I guess he couldn't get an angle, or expended all shots in the battle and it didn't regenerated yet.
