Geodrakes are a species of dragon that can be rarely found deep underground. While their body shape remains generally the same among all geodrake subspecies, the most variable and defining feature are the crystals adorning their bodies and face. The type of crystal found on a particular drake can be any naturally occurring crystal, though only one type of crystal will be found on a single drake.

Geodrakes have no facial features aside from a single large crystal embedded within their skull. This crystal is present from the drake's birth and grows with it, unlike any crystals found on the rest of its body, which only begin appearing some time after hatching and ceaselessly grow for the drake's entire life. Geodrakes feed exclusively on magic.

The crystal within the geodrake's head is life supporting, damage to it causes extreme pain for the geodrake, and destruction or removal will kill it.
All crystals aside from the face can be painlessly harvested if cut slightly above the skin, complete removal will cause severe pain and bleeding as they are attached to the flesh. Particularly old geodrakes can be found with many crystals of such large size that the drake is almost entirely immobile. They are usually quite happy to have these crystals cut shorter.

Another one of my funny little critters! Honestly don't remember what prompted me to create these guys, they're a very old concept so that knowledge has escaped me. Lore for them is fairly slim as they're fairly simple compared to some of my others.

I gave Ket complete freedom over what crystal to give them for this image, and she ended up going with fluorite, which was such a beautiful choice.
