“I've always felt that I wasn't good enough for anything or anyone. Depression weighed upon me – the heavy burden of sadness bringing me down constantly to the point of darkness. When I look in the mirror, all I saw was someone who feel like they didn't have a place to belong to – a piece that doesn't belong in anyone's puzzle. But then I look at my collar that my close friend gifted to me; the decorative leather attire that hangs loose around my neck fluff. When they are around, they stroke my cheek and massaged my ear with their fingers. They look into my sad and tired eyes and softly whispered 'You are a good puppy. I'm right here for you'. Just hearing those reassuring words and the sensation of their hand caressing my cheek, a sense of belonging rolls over me – my depression washing away and a feeling of acceptance rolled over me. Whenever I feel down and worthless, they remind me that I'm important to them – enough to claim me as their own, someone that they don't want to lose.”
