As I think most people know, Dark Natasha was recently in a bad car accident, and she's now home with her family recovering from the incident. She is a wonderful person and kind friend, and I wanted to send her something in support, hence this piece was born.
I know most people would consider it awful to send someone in the hospital a vulture, but here's a little on why I made it:
Vulture medicine teaches us to trust in the universe to provide for us; that if we follow our true path we will be taken care of. Vulture people tend to be resourceful and fully developed in the skills that they possess. Mess seems to follow vulture, but in fact vulture follows mess. They are excellent at the ‘cleaning up’ of problem situations – whether they are emotional, physical, or spiritual. Whatever the mess, trust a vulture to have an efficient, effective solution to it.
Though it gets a bad reputation, the vulture doesn’t cause chaos, it cleans it up. It makes the best of any situation – even those that seem unpleasant or horrible to other people.
I know that Natasha likes vultures, so I thought she may like this.
This is also the kick-off of my 100 birds series. I plan to make 100 wildlife miniature paintings of different bird species in the next year. Feathers, feathers, and more feathers!
Acrylic, 3x4".

Thank you for your kind words!
Heather Bruton has been posting updates about Natasha in her journal - http://hbruton.livejournal.com/ - you might want to inquire there about that. I know she recently posted an address where you could send cards or well wishes if you like. :)

Vultures are such BEAUTIFUL birds! I have 4 vultures that hang out in my backyard. I love them. My Mayan zodiac animal is the Vulture, and I'm honored. BEAUTIFUL piece! :) The vulture has a kind look in his eyes. :) I'm sure she'll just love it! I hope she feels better soon and very kind of you to paint this for her!
As a request, I'd LOVE to see paintings of exotic birds (like my treasured hookbills) such as cockatiels, African Greys, macaws, cockatoos, etc. when you create your line of 100 bird species. I think they're so gorgeous and completely underrepresented not only in the furry fandom but in art in general!
BTW, this is a gorgeous piece and I, as many people were, shocked to hear Natasha had been in an accident. But she's back home and on the road to recovery and that's all that matters!!!

There will definitely be psittacines in the series - I am a hookbill lover as well. I've worked with parrots all my life and am owned by a B&G macaw. Someday, when I have the space to build a proper aviary, I've got a few dream birds on the list, but I can't imagine ever having the time for more than 2-3 of them at most. The hardest thing is to decide *which* of them to do for this series, I could seriously do all 100 on psittas alone!
